RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (10-8-7) return to City Stadium Saturday, Oct. 16, for the club’s final 2021 regular-season home game to host the rubber match between Henny Derby rivals Forward Madison (6-6-11). Kickoff for the match is set for 6:30 p.m.
Richmond’s last match was against North Texas SC in Arlington, Texas. The match began with a goal from North Texas’ Gibran Rayo after a well-placed pass by Blaine Ferri found Rayo in stride to side foot the ball into the net. Richmond would absorb pressure from the hosts and apply their own before finding their equalizer in the 81st minute. Zaca Moran received a misguided clearance from North Texas, well outside of the box, and put his laces through it on the first touch to send the scorching ball into the upper right corner of the goal. Moran’s equalizer marked his first goal for the Reds and it would later be named goal of the week by USL League One.
With six minutes of stoppage time announced, Richmond was on the attack, and, in the 95th minute of the match, Nil Vinyals placed a perfect set-piece delivery into the six-yard box for Ivan Magalhães, who thundered a header into the back of the net for a dramatic comeback victory and his first goal of the season.

The match marked the Reds’ fourth-straight victory as Richmond earned three-straight 1-0 victories at home before heading down to the Lone Star State.
The last time Richmond faced Forward Madison was in the middle of that homestand that featured three-straight victories. The two sides played a midweek match and Richmond capitalized on an early moment of brilliant team play resulting in Emiliano Terzaghi’s 15th goal of the season in the eighth minute. Richmond did a great job of holding their lead for the remainder of the 82 minutes and kept Forward Madison’s attack at bay, keeping them from registering a shot on target.

Forward Madison’s last match was against New England Revolution II in the middle of the week. New England Revolution II’s Justin Rennicks scored an early goal in the 9th minute, and the hosts were able to keep the Forward Madison attack at bay. Madison took 16 shots, had three on target, and had a majority of possession with 54.8% in their away defeat to New England Revolution II. Now they will continue on the road to City Stadium to face Richmond.
The season series between Richmond and Madison is currently tied with both sides earning a 1-0 win at their respective homes on top of a 0-0 draw that took place in Madison.

Following the match against Forward Madison, Richmond will travel to Werner Park in Papillion, Neb. to matchup against the current league-leaders and the first team to clinch a place in the USL League One playoffs, Union Omaha. The last time the two sides met was early in the season and resulted in a 1-1 draw at City Stadium. Kickoff for the match is set for Saturday, Oct. 23, 7:00 p.m.

Richmond Kickers
Zaca Moran (#6) is Richmond’s number 6, playing as the “regista” under Coach Darren Sawatzky. He has started all 22 of the matches he’s played, and for good reason. Moran scored a world-class goal against North Texas last week to initiate their late comeback victory. In his first season with the club, he has one goal, three assists and a 80.9% passing accuracy.
Jalen Crisler (#15) is a massive presence in Richmond’s defense. Crisler has won 58.4% of his aerial duels, 53.68% of his ground duels and leads the squad in blocks (28). Crisler made a spectacular goal line clearance against North Texas SC which encapsulated his consistency in his first-year with the club.
Nil Vinyals (#10) is a master in finding space and being able to sit outside of the box and play on either side to help distribute and recycle play in the final third. Vinyals is a tidy dribbler and passer of the ball, with a passing accuracy of 75.3%, Vinyals is willing to make the risky, line-breaking passes and deliver a deadly set-piece.
Forward Madison
Jake Keegan (#7) is Forward Madison’s leading goalscorer with six goals and the team’s top assist-man with four assists. Keegan is one of the main attacking outlets for the Mingo’s and he leads the team in shots with 50.
Aaron Molloy (#6) is a bright player in the midfield with a passing accuracy of 87.1% he is a dangerous distributor of the ball and if he and the forwards can connect successfully they can be dangerous for the Richmond defense. Molloy has three goals and three assists this season.
Derek Gebhard (#17) is a pacey winger for the Mingos. Gebhard has scored five goals this season and has an 81.9% passing accuracy. Gebhard adds some width to a strong Madison midfield and his connection with the forwards and his interplay with Molloy is a connection to be wary of.
