Terzaghi Named to USL League One Cleer Audio Team of the Week for Week 30
TAMPA, Fla. — USL League One announced on Monday that Richmond Kickers’ forward Emiliano Terzaghi was named to the Cleer Audio Team of the Week for Week 30 after the newly-minted back-to-back Golden Boot winner notched an equalizer at FC Tucson.
Terzaghi earns his eighth recognition of the season from the league after previously being named to the Cleer Audio Team of the Week for weeks 5, 17, 19, 25, 26, and 28 as well as earning Cleer Audio Player of the Week honors for week 13.
Down 2-1 at the half, Terzaghi was critical in providing an equalizer for the Reds in the desert.
Terzaghi danced into the box in the 49th minute as he dribbled past his defender and the goalkeeper who came off his line. With a seemingly open net in front of him, the Argentine was taken down before he could shoot the ball and the referee called for a penalty.
Without hesitation, he got up and placed the ball at the spot, and waited for the referee to signal. Terzaghi calmly sent the goalkeeper in the other direction as he guided the ball into the back of the net.
Terzaghi finished the match with six shots and two on target while winning the majority of his duels and winning a team-high four fouls.
Terzaghi and his teammates are on the road at FC Tucson for the quarterfinals of the USL League One Playoffs presented by TwinSpires. Match Recap: Playoff-Bound Kickers Fall at FC Tucson in Regular-Season Finale
TUCSON, Ariz. — The Richmond Kickers (11-10-7) fell on the road at FC Tucson(11-10-7) 4-2, Saturday night as the Reds finished their 2021 regular-season campaign as the fifth seed in the USL League One playoffs presented by TwinSpires.
The sounding of the referee’s whistle marked the start of Richmond’s final regular-season match of 2021. In the 4th minute, Kevin Rodriguez took a shot on goal. Akira Fitzgerald quickly blocked the shot but another Tucson attacker gathered the rebound and took a shot at the open goal. Jalen Crisler made an emphatic goalline save and clearance to deny the early attempts at goal.
Shortly after, Matt Bolduc sent a cross into the box towards the far post and Jonathan Bolanos side-footed it at the goal. Wallis Lapsley got a hand to it but the shot had too much pace on it and bounced up into the goal netting, bringing the Reds an early go-ahead goal in the 22nd minute.
A few minutes later, FC Tucson came back with an attack of their own, and the fullback, Max Schenfeld, drilled a shot from the left side of the box that curled just out of Fitzgerald’s reach, leveling the scoreline in the 24th minute, 1-1.
FC Tucson came back with their own attack just before halftime. Deri Corfe received the ball outside of the box, dribbled towards the Richmond box, and found space to shoot. The attempt took a bounce near the goal and threw Fitzgerald off bouncing into the net, bringing FC Tucson to 2-1.
The second half was underway and the Reds pushed for an equalizer right out of the gate. Terzaghi pressed an awkward bounce deep in Tucson territory and was free on goal, Terzaghi beating his mark, was attacked by Lapsley, but Terzaghi pushed the ball to the side, beating Lapsley and having an open goal, but Lapsley took Terzaghi down and Richmond earned a penalty. Terzaghi placed the ball on the spot and drilled the penalty into the net, equalizing for the Reds, 2-2.
FC Tucson earned a corner kick in the 51st minute which Charlie Dennis delivered into the center of the box for Luca Mastrantonio to head into the goal, giving FC Tucson the lead again, 3-2.
Several minutes later, FC Tucson sent a long ball across the field to Shak Adams on the right-wing whose burst of pace took him into the Richmond box. Adams feigned left, went wide, and managed to salvage a foot of space to get a shot off into the near post, beating Fitzgerald and adding another to the scoreline, 4-2.
The Kickers have the week to rest and recuperate before they head back to the desert to face fourth-seeded Tucson in a rematch in the quarterfinals of the USL League One playoffs presented by TwinSpires. The kickoff for the match will be announced at a later date.

Match Preview: Playoff-Bound Kickers Head to FC Tucson for Regular Season Finale
Match Information:
Broadcast Information:
Richmond Kickers
Jonathan Bolanos (#17) is a pacey winger who’s scored four goals and notched an assist this season. Bolanos enjoys making deep, diagonal runs into the opposition’s territory, and with FC Tucson needing a win for a shot at a playoff spot their team shape may be less conservative and more open for Bolanos’ signature runs and cut in’s.
Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) is one game off from winning the Golden Boot for the second year in a row. This time around Terzaghi notched 17 goals, breaking Ronaldo Damus’ single-season USL League One goals-coring record. Terzaghi has the most in the league and despite getting off to a slow start early in the season has proven once again why he is the league’s most feared man in the 18-yard box.
Zaca Moran (#6) has been a set starter for this squad whenever he’s been available and has been a major contributor to both the attack and defense, racking up three assists, 36 interceptions (second in the squad) all while maintaining an 80.6% passing accuracy.
FC Tucson
Charlie Dennis (#10) is FC Tucson’s leading goalscorer with nine goals, he also leads the squad in assists with seven. Dennis is a dangerous playmaker and goalscorer in the final third with a passing accuracy of 79.6% and scores a goal every 192.9 minutes.
Shak Adams (#17) is the next leading goalscorer in the squad, only two behind Charlie Dennis with seven goals and a pair of assists himself. Adams is lightning fast and dangerous in wide areas of the pitch where he can make space and take on defenders. Adams’ 82% passing accuracy makes him a valuable asset for Tucson’s attack and for connecting with Charlie Dennis.
Wallis Lapsley (#1) is an experienced keeper and is tied for second in the league for most saves (74), just behind Richmond’s Akira Fitzgerald. Lapsley has four clean sheets this season and will be on his toes as Tucson push for a playoff spot in the last match of the season.
Kickers Clinch Their Spot in 2021 USL League One Playoffs
RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Kickers clinched a spot in the 2021 USL League One playoffs, Friday afternoon, following Toronto FC II’s 1-0 win over New England Revolution II that eliminated New England from playoff contention.
The Kickers currently sit in fourth place in the USL League One standings as they prepare to play their regular-season finale at FC Tucson in Arizona, Saturday night.
The third and fourth seeds host the first round of the playoffs and the Reds control their destiny to host their first home playoff match at City Stadium since 2014.
A win at Tucson guarantees that the Kickers have a chance to extend their 13-match unbeaten streak and four-game winning streak at home. If Richmond draws against Tucson, they will need North Texas SC to draw or lose against first-place Union Omaha to still clinch fourth place and another match at City Stadium in 2021.

Match Recap: The Reds Fall Late On the Road Against League-Leaders Union Omaha
PAPILLION, Neb. — The Richmond Kickers (11-9-7) fell late away from home against the league leaders, Union Omaha (14-5-8) after two goals in the final 10 minutes clinched the victory for the hosts.
With the blow of the referee’s whistle, the match between Union Omaha and the Richmond Kickers was underway at Werner Park. Both sides played very direct from the get-go for the first 10 minutes of the match.
In the 16th minute of the match, the Reds earned a corner, the delivery sent in by Nil Vinyals nearly reached Ethan Bryant who threw his body at the ball for a diving header but the delivery was deflected by a Union Omaha defender at the last second.
Richmond was on the attack going into the 32nd minute, and Vinyals found space in the Union Omaha box, he switched the ball to his left foot and sent a low-driven shot towards the goal. Rashid Nuhu did just enough to get his hand to the attempt and force a corner kick.
With Vinyals standing over the dead ball, he sent a delivery into the near post for Emiliano Terzaghi who whipped in a header, but the attempt hit the underside of the bar and was cleared by Union Omaha. The first half was under wraps with both sides held to a scoreless draw.
With the opening of the second half, both sides would battle it out in the midfield fighting for space to get a decent shot off on goal. In the 73rd minute, Matt Bolduc feigned inside and went right leaving his mark behind and fired off a shot that flew just wide of the far post.
Roughly 10 minutes later, Union Omaha was awarded a free kick outside of the Richmond penalty box. Tobias Otieno took his run-up and struck a dipping ball that curled just under the crossbar beating Akira Fitzgerald and bringing the scoreline to 1-0 in Omaha’s favor.
Shortly after, in the 88th minute, Omaha was on the counter attack and played a long ball from within their own half that sailed into the final third and met Greg Hurst who barely kept himself onside. Hurst composed himself and took a shot that hit the back of the net and sealed the victory for Union Omaha.
Richmond’s regular-season finale will be against FC Tucson in Tucson, Ariz. on October 30 with a win on the road guaranteeing a spot in the USL League One playoffs for the Kickers. The Reds will be facing FC Tucson for the second match of the season. The first time the two sides clashed Terzaghi netted an early 19th minute penalty and the Reds held a clean sheet at City Stadium to earn three points. Kickoff for the next match is set for 10:00 p.m. ET.

Terzaghi Named to USL League One Cleer Audio Team of the Week for Week 28
TAMPA, Fla. — USL League One announced on Monday that Richmond Kickers’ forward Emiliano Terzaghi was named to the Cleer Audio Team of the Week for Week 28 after Saturday’s 3-2 win over Forward Madison in the Kickers’ regular-season home finale.
Terzaghi earns his seventh recognition of the season from the league after previously being named to the Cleer Audio Team of the Week for weeks 5, 17, 19, 25, and 26 as well as earning Cleer Audio Player of the Week honors for week 13.
“First, my thanks to USL League One for the recognition,” Terzaghi said. “It was a difficult match, but the team worked hard to get the three points and I’m happy to help the team get them. It is always good to continue growing with this team and reaching new milestones together.”
The Kickers found themselves knotted up 1-1 with Forward Madison in the dying minutes of the first half, Saturday night. Jonathan Bolanos found space on the left side and fired a shot on target that was deflected away from goal by Madison’s Phil Breno.
Terzaghi was the first to the ball and kicked the rebound towards the goal. The Argentine was flanked by Madison’s Cyrus Rad, but the defender could not get to the ball fast enough as it hit the back of the net to give the Kickers the lead and Terzaghi a tie of the USL League One single-season goal-scoring record at 16 goals.
Madison would equalize early in the second half, and the match would again be locked up into the dying moments of a half. Then, in the 88th minute, Juan Pablo Monticelli found himself in space on the left side and played a low cross into the box towards Oalex Anderson. Anderson deflected the ball away from Breno and towards the back post. Terzaghi, who was drifting to the back post quickened his pace and fired the ball into the top of the net to give Richmond the go-ahead goal.
Terzaghi’s game-winning goal against Madison marked his 17th of the season, eclipsing the league’s single-season goal-scoring record set by North Texas SC’s Ronaldo Damus in 2019. Terzaghi previously became the league’s all-time goal scorer earlier in the season and currently has 27 goals scored in his two seasons with the Kickers.
