RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (11-9-7) travel to the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. to match up against FC Tucson (10-10-7) for the final regular-season match of the season for both squads this Saturday, October 30. Kickoff for the match is set for 10:00 p.m. EST.
 
 
The Kickers clinched a spot in the 2021 USL League One playoffs, Friday afternoon, following Toronto FC II’s 1-0 win over New England Revolution II that eliminated New England from playoff contention. 
 
The Kickers currently sit in fourth place in the USL League One standings as they prepare to play their regular-season finale at FC Tucson in Arizona, Saturday night.
 
The third and fourth seeds host the first round of the playoffs and the Reds control their destiny to host their first home playoff match at City Stadium since 2014.
 
A win at Tucson guarantees that the Kickers have a chance to extend their 13-match unbeaten streak and four-game winning streak at home. If Richmond draws against Tucson, they will need North Texas SC to draw or lose against first-place Union Omaha to still clinch fourth place and another match at City Stadium in 2021.
 
Richmond’s last match was against the league leaders, Union Omaha, at Werner Park in Nebraska. Richmond fell late in the second half after Union Omaha earned a free kick just outside of the box in the 85th minute.
 
Tobias Otieno curled a ball over the wall into the near post, beating Akira Fitzgerald and opening the scoring for the night. Shortly after, in the 88th minute, Greg Hurst made a deep run behind the Richmond defense and received a long, lofted through-pass, and finished his run on goal with a second goal for Union Omaha.
 
The last time Richmond faced FC Tucson was at the end of July at City Stadium. The match started with early excitement after Emiliano Terzaghi scored a penalty in the 19th minute of the match. Richmond held FC Tucson scoreless despite their 30 shots taken to earn its fourth clean sheet of the season.
 
FC Tucson’s last match was against Forward Madison at Breese Stevens Field. FC Tucson opened the scoring with a 16-minute penalty goal by Charlie Dennis. Shortly after, in the 24th minute, FC Tucson responded back with a second goal by Kevin Rodriguez. Despite an early 2-0 lead, Forward Madison would end up answering back in the second half with two goals of their own.
 
Aaron Molloy scored a goal in the 50th minute to bring the scoreline to 2-1, giving the Mingo’s some hope. Then later, in dramatic fashion, Ryan Sierakowski scored a goal in stoppage time in the 94th minute of the match.
 
The Kickers’ first match of the 2021 USL League One Playoffs is set for Saturday, Nov. 6. In the event that the Kickers host a playoff game at City Stadium, tickets will first go on sale for Kickers+ members on Monday, Nov. 1 for an exclusive window before opening up to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

Richmond Kickers

Jonathan Bolanos (#17) is a pacey winger who’s scored four goals and notched an assist this season. Bolanos enjoys making deep, diagonal runs into the opposition’s territory, and with FC Tucson needing a win for a shot at a playoff spot their team shape may be less conservative and more open for Bolanos’  signature runs and cut in’s.

Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) is one game off from winning the Golden Boot for the second year in a row. This time around Terzaghi notched 17 goals, breaking Ronaldo Damus’ single-season USL League One goals-coring record. Terzaghi has the most in the league and despite getting off to a slow start early in the season has proven once again why he is the league’s most feared man in the 18-yard box.

Zaca Moran (#6) has been a set starter for this squad whenever he’s been available and has been a major contributor to both the attack and defense, racking up three assists, 36 interceptions (second in the squad) all while maintaining an 80.6% passing accuracy.

FC Tucson

Charlie Dennis (#10) is FC Tucson’s leading goalscorer with nine goals, he also leads the squad in assists with seven. Dennis is a dangerous playmaker and goalscorer in the final third with a passing accuracy of 79.6% and scores a goal every 192.9 minutes.

Shak Adams (#17) is the next leading goalscorer in the squad, only two behind Charlie Dennis with seven goals and a pair of assists himself. Adams is lightning fast and dangerous in wide areas of the pitch where he can make space and take on defenders. Adams’ 82% passing accuracy makes him a valuable asset for Tucson’s attack and for connecting with Charlie Dennis.

Wallis Lapsley (#1) is an experienced keeper and is tied for second in the league for most saves (74), just behind Richmond’s Akira Fitzgerald. Lapsley has four clean sheets this season and will be on his toes as Tucson push for a playoff spot in the last match of the season.
