Dj Roo: 2014 USL Quarterfinals – Richmond vs Charleston from September 13, 2014

RICHMOND, Va. – (Wednesday, June 24, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers continue the new live feature, Déjà Roo, presented by Absolute Stone Design this Saturday night at 6:30 p.m. This series looks back at matches in Kickers history with live commentary from players and coaches that were in the match to bring fans unique content and activate our loyal partnerships. This week’s Déjà Roo takes a look at the dramatic 2-1 win over long-time rivals Charleston Battery in the 2014 USL Playoffs Quarterfinals. After playing 90 minutes tied at 1-1, the two longest, continuously-running professional clubs in the country headed to extra time. With penalties looming, Matthew Delicâte came off the bench to net the game winner in the 118th minute.

During the match, Kickers Manager of Digital Content, Nathan Heintschel will be joined by Kickers legend Matthew Delicâte and current Kickers defender Conor Shanosky.

Making 249 appearances over 10 seasons in Richmond, Delicâte is the Kickers’ all-time leading scorer with 113 career goals and 28 career assists. Adding 21 assists in a Kickers’ uniform, the four-time USL All-League First Time honoree and 2014 USL Most Valuable Player Finalist also owns the club record for career points (209) over 10 seasons in Richmond.

The longest tenured player on the current roster, Shanosky has made 111 appearances with Richmond, dating back to the 2013 season. Between the 2013 and 2014 seasons, the Pittsburgh native spent the time with the Kickers on loan from D.C. United before going on to sign with Louisville City FC for the 2015 and part of the 2016 season. Shanosky returned to Richmond halfway through the 2016, where he has remained.

To the Richmond community,

I sincerely hope that this message finds you all safe and well.

As I reflect on the past few weeks, I am often lost for words. The deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd are painful reminders that systemic change is long overdue in our country. The demonstrations that we have seen across the United States come from restless and oppressed people who wish to gain access to liberties, rights, and opportunities that have been denied for hundreds of years.

If we truly wish to create meaningful change, it starts from within. We can take steps forward by educating ourselves on the issues that we are faced with. Then, we have a responsibility to make a positive impact in the spaces that we live in. This is why I have compiled a list of educational resources and action steps that can be taken to combat racial inequities and ignorance. My challenge for everyone who sees this message is to read, watch, and listen to the materials below with an open heart and mind.

This week’s Déjà Roo takes a look at last season’s largest league victory, a decisive 4-1 road win at South Georgia Tormenta FC. A pair of braces from Dennis Chin and Joe Gallardo cancelled our Mikie Rowe’s early free kick goal. Matt Bolduc picked up the assist on Chin’s second of the night.

During the match, Kickers Manager of Digital Content, Nathan Heintschel will be joined by midfielder Matt Bolduc and defender Luke Pavone. Bolduc signed with Richmond just after the start of the 2017 season, going on to make 49 appearances over three seasons with the Kickers, scoring two goals and adding 7 assists. He had a club-high six assists last season. Signing prior to the 2019 season, Pavone made four appearances for the Kickers in his first season with the club. Starting his collegiate career at the University of Massachusetts for two seasons, Pavone played his final three years at Buffalo State College. In 2018, Pavone signed his first professional contract with Hapoel Petach-Tikvah in Isreal.

#RallyTogether Fund Provides 16,000 Meals for RVA Families

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, June 12, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that in partnership with WTVR CBS 6, the #RallyTogether Fund has raised $4,000 for Feed More, which equates to 16,000 meals for RVA families. Fans could purchase a rally towel for just $10, which included a ticket to the 2020 Kickers Home Opener. With every purchase, the Kickers will donate a ticket to healthcare workers throughout RVA through Bon Secours.

“We are so thankful to our supporters and the general soccer community for coming together and assisting us in our goal to raise awareness and money benefitting Feed More and their incredible efforts to feed RVA!” commented Rob Ukrop, Kickers Chairman.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic increased the need for essential services like Feed More, central Virginia was already in great need. Feed More’s programs are dedicated to providing healthy meals and hope for a better tomorrow to Central Virginians who face hunger. For every $1 donated, Feed More is able to provide four meals to those in need. In total, Feed More’s programs and network of agencies provide more than 52,000 meals each day to neighbors in need across 34 counties and cities across Central Virginia.

This week’s Déjà Roo will look at the road match at Penn FC that saw Scott Thomsen score a goal that ended up being featured on ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 Plays on July 9, 208. Richmond would claim the 2-1 road victory with a second half goal.

During the match, Kickers Manager of Digital Content, Nathan Heintschel will be joined by current Kickers defender Scott Thomsen and former midfielder Fred Owusu Sekyere. A native of Brick Township, New Jersey, Thomsen is in his fourth season with the Kickers after 22 matches in USL League One last season. He made 18 appearances for the Kickers in 2018, scoring one goal and adding an assist. In his first stint with the Kickers, he joined the club mid-season in 2016 and netted one goal and added one assist en route to the birth in the 2016 USL Playoffs. Now the Director of Technical Development and Camps for the Richmond Kickers Youth Club, Owusu made 96 appearances with the Kickers pro team, scoring nine goals and added 12 assists over four seasons.
