RICHMOND, Va. — (Wednesday, October 7, 2020) — The Richmond Kickers (7-3-2) picked up the 2-1 victory at City Stadium Wednesday night over Orlando City B (1-8-3). Jonathan Bolanos scored his first two professional goals in the first half to lead the Kickers to all three points. Orlando would get a goal back in stoppage time from Wilfredo Rivera.
Eight minutes into the match a pair of blocks prevented Orlando from getting a shot off. The first came when Kenji Tanaka looked for a break on goal. Kyle Venter made sure to get a foot in his path to poke away the ball. Greg Boehme followed up, sliding through Raul Aguilera to stop the chance.
The Kickers nearly got on the board in the 13th minute. Scott Thomsen served in a bending free kick from the left wing into the back post. Ivan Magalhães got his head on the ball, as his shot skipped just wide of the Orlando goal.
The first professional goal for Jonathan Bolanos broke the deadlock after 27 minutes. Ryley Kraft served in a corner kick that found Magalhães at the back post. He headed the ball back in front of goal trying to pick out Kyle Venter as Orlando thought they had cleared it. Bolanos met the ball at the top of the box, going for a rocket of a shot that made no mistake finding the back of the net.
Bolanos converted from the penalty spot to net a brace in the 43rd minute. Magalhães played the ball long for Bolanos to make a run into the Orlando box. Just before he reached the ball, Franklin Carabalí tripped Bolanos, forcing the referee to point to the spot. Having been fouled, Bolanos called to take the penalty, putting it straight down the middle of the goal to make it 2-0 to Richmond.
Orlando had to play the final 22 minutes of the match down a man after a red card. After picking up a yellow card in the first half, Moises Tablante was called for a foul in the 68th minute on Matt Bolduc. The referee issued the second yellow followed by the red to send him off.
The visitors would pull back a goal in stoppage time. Wilfredo Rivera chipped the ball out for Jonathan Rosales on the right. He took a touch before playing the ball right back into the box, finding Rivera making the run in. He got enough of a touch on the ball to put it just out of the reach of Akira Fitzgerald.
The Kickers are right back at it Saturday night, as they hit the road to face reigning champions North Texas SC at Globe Life Park. Kickoff for that match is set for 8:00 p.m. ET and will be available to watch live on WTVR CBS 6.3 and on ESPN+.

RICHMOND, Va. — (Saturday, October 3, 2020) — The Richmond Kickers (6-3-2) suffered their first home defeat of the season, falling 0-4 to New England Revolution II (4-6-2) Saturday night at City Stadium. The visitors scored a pair of goals in each half to end the Kickers’ home unbeaten run.
Four minutes into the match, Richmond nearly found an early goal. Mutaya Mwape worked his way to the endline, finding the space to get a cross into the box. Luke Pavone came crashing in for a header as his attempt sailed just high of the New England goal.
The Kickers were inches away from the opener in the 22nd minute. Wahab Ackwei was fouled on the right wing to set up a free kick opportunity. With Ryley Kraft and Mwape standing over the ball, it was Mwape that whipped in a cross towards the back post. Ackwei met the ball with a header as his shot flew just wide of the post.
New England broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute from a corner kick. Tiago Mendoca played in a high-arcing cross to pick out Orlando Sinclair at the back post. His header came down onto the head of Kyle Venter, who redirected it into his own net.
A penalty kick in the 31st minute would double the Revolution II lead. Mwape was called for the penalty after a tackle from behind on Colby Quinones, forcing the referee to point to the spot. Nicolas Firmino stepped up and put his shot to the right of Akira Fitzgerald for the goal.
New England kept the pressure on Richmond in the 36th minute, with the woodwork coming to the rescue. A mis-hit pass at the back opened up the space for Firmino to pounce on the loose ball. With the space, he went for the shot from outside the box that pinged off the crossbar. Ivan Magalhães was there to clear it away.
Emiliano Terzaghi was denied by the Revolution II keeper in the 54th minute. Stanley Alves got control of the ball at the top of the New England box. He played the simple through ball for Terzaghi. The Argentine battled for a shot that Keegan Meyer needed to parry over.
The Kickers pressed to pull a goal back in the 64th minute. Scott Thomsen worked his way up the left flank and tried to pick out Alves at the back post with a long cross in. Alves managed to get his head on the ball, but his shot ended up going over the New England goal.
New England would make it 3-0 in the 81st minute. Nicolas Firmino made his way to the endline before getting a cross into the box. As Justin Rennicks tried to get on the ball, it deflected off Mumbi Kwesele for an own goal.
Revolution II scored their fourth goal just two minutes later. Mayele Malango worked his way up the right wing before cutting across the field. After managing to keep control, he took a touch to Damian Rivera. Rivera cut inside the box to find just enough space to chip a shot over Akira Fitzgerald for the fourth goal of the night for the visitors.

TAMPA, Fla. – USL League One announced today for the first time in league history the USL League One Final will be broadcast on linear television, airing live on ESPN Deportes on Friday, October 30th at 8 p.m. ET. In addition to the Spanish-language broadcast, the Final will stream live in English on ESPN+ for the second consecutive season and will be broadcast live on SiriusXM FC Radio for the first time.
As part of USL’s broadcast rights deal with ESPN, which extends through the 2022 season, League One’s first two seasons have streamed live on ESPN+. The digital platform will carry the remaining regular season matches as teams vie for a place in the League One Final, with the two teams atop the 11-team table earning a trip to the title game.
“The 2020 League One season has provided tremendous excitement on the field, and the Final will serve as a great conclusion to a challenging season,” said USL Executive Vice President Court Jeske. “To have a match broadcast on the ESPN family of networks so early on in the league’s history is a fantastic milestone and one we couldn’t have reached without the commitment of our clubs and support of our communities across the country.”
In addition to being the first League One match to air on linear television, the Final will be the first Spanish-language broadcast in the league’s history.
In August this year, the USL announced that SiriusXM FC will be the exclusive satellite radio home of the USL League One Final and USL Championship Final for the next two seasons. Fans can tune into the match on October 30th on channel 157 on SiriusXM.
