The Richmond Kickers will host CD Leganés July 16 in a friendly exhibition match
The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that the club will take on LALIGA side CD Leganés on July 16 at City Stadium. Kickoff will take place at 7:30pm EST with gates opening at 6:00pm EST.
The Richmond Kickers have a long standing history of hosting international friendlies, the most recent of which was played against Comunicaciones FC in 2023. The Kickers began the Summer tradition in 2004 against current EPL side Nottingham Forest and the first LALIGA club to visit City Stadium was RCD Espanyol in 2018.
CD Leganés was founded in 1928, playing its first match in the 6th division of Spanish football. Moving up the leagues over the almost 100 years, Leganés played in the second and third divisions from 1992 — the year before the Kickers own founding — to 2016.
The 2015-16 season saw Leganés make their LALIGA debut thanks to a 1-0 win over CD Mirandés. The side remained in La Liga until the 2019-20 season, becoming the 5th Community of Madrid team to compete at the top tier after Real Madrid, Atlético Madrid, Rayo Vallecano and Getafe.
Leganés returned to LALIGA play for the 2024-25 season after finishing first place in the Segunda Division’s 2023-24 season.
Richmond Kickers Season Ticket Members will receive a ticket to the match as the 18th match of their season ticket package.
