To Our Fans and the RVA Community –
We hope that your year is off to a wonderful start! As we accelerate towards the start of our 29th consecutive season, we would like to provide a brief update on a few club items:
Most importantly, we would like to remind you of our club’s commitment to utilize the beautiful game of soccer as a unifying force. We are especially proud of our team’s diverse background and the teamwork they demonstrate both on and off the field bringing our RVA community together. Our team very much looks forward to being more active throughout the community, when safe, in the coming months.
Regarding our season on the field – We’re anticipating a full 28-match regular season slate starting in April or early May, leading to a six-team playoff in November. The scheduling process is ongoing and fluid – We hope to have a final schedule, with U.S. Open Cup dates, published by the start of March. We’ll certainly keep you posted as more information becomes available. We would also like to welcome North Carolina FC into USL League One this year. It will be nice to have a “local” rival that we have some shared history with!
Our technical staff has been working hard to build off last year’s success on the field. As many of you know, we have re-signed USL League One MVP, Emiliano Terzaghi. We have also brought back a core group of returning players including standout goalkeeper, Akira Fitzgerald, who will also serve as our goalkeeper coach, along with Mumbi Kwesele, Matt Bolduc, Victor Falck, Luke Pavone, Jonathan Bolanos, and Ian Antley. We had a terrific showing at our winter pro combine, and our staff has identified some exciting young players we believe will contribute in 2021. In addition, we have several new and exciting veteran players to announce in the coming weeks – To receive this news before the rest of the public, make sure to sign up for a Kickers+ membership today!
For those who haven’t heard – Kickers+ is our new season membership program, a change that we felt would offer the most value and flexibility to our fans given the uncertainty of capacity limits for sporting events in the Commonwealth for 2021. We’re beyond grateful to those who have already signed up and we encourage everyone to share and join in! It’s the best way to support the club right now and we promise to deliver exceptional value throughout the year to all members.
