RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (2-3-1) return to City Stadium to host New England Revolution II (2-2-1), Saturday, June 5. Kickoff for this match is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.

After a turgid first-half stalemate, Richmond came out onto CHI Memorial Stadium and netted a goal in the 47th minute. What started as a stab at the ball by Emiliano Terzaghi at the half line turned into a brilliant exchange of one-two passes on the left wing, which sent Oalex Anderson dashing up into Chattanooga territory. Nearing the goalkeeper, Anderson placed a curling effort through the danger area that was deflected by a Chattanooga defender into the wide-open net to bring the scoreline to 1-0.

With the lead, Richmond looked to capitalize on playing up the left-wing as Anderson’s pace was getting the better of the Chattanooga right side. However, in the 53rd minute, Ricky Ruiz answered back after a long Chattanooga throw-in made its way into the right side of the penalty area only to be lofted centrally for Ruiz to finish it off. Then in the 84th minute, Juan Galindrez came on to seal the win with a shot from a dead ball in the Richmond box.

The Kickers return to City Stadium to take on New England Revolution II for the second time this season. The Reds opened their season on the road at Revs II with a 3-0 win following Anderson, Jonathan Bolanos, Juan Pablo Monticelli, and Anderson opening their 2021 scoring accounts. The team took nine shots on goal and had five players finish with a passing accuracy of 80% or higher.

Since that opening fixture, New England’s form has followed that of the Kickers closely. The Revs most recently played Fort Lauderdale, beating them 1-0, for the second time this season, and last week played Chattanooga, tying the Red Wolves 2-2. However, New England’s squad has only scored four goals this season and held two clean sheets. With both the Kickers and Revs II level on points in the middle of the table, a win would provide a significant boon for either side.

The Kickers and City Stadium will be celebrating Pride Night with a focus and attention on the LGBTQ+ community on June 5 and will be selling tie-dye and player-signed jerseys as well as pride magnets and stickers. The profits will be donated to Virginia Pride, a local organization that works in the LGBTQ+ community.

The Richmond Kickers and the Richmond Strikers also plan to commemorate David Bulow in a pregame ceremony at Saturday’s June 5 match at City Stadium.

Taking place shortly before Saturday’s 6:30 pm kickoff, the ceremony will be led by representatives of both the Kickers’ organization and Bulow’s Richmond Strikers U19 Boys and Girls Elite Teams. A special tribute penned by members of both organizations will be read aloud over the public address during the ceremony. There will be a collection point inside City Stadium where fans can drop off cards or write memories of David that will be presented to the Bulow family.

Richmond’s next match will be at Forward Madison, for the first iteration of this season’s Henny Derby. Forward Madison currently sits at second place in the table, undefeated and tied in points with Union Omaha and Chattanooga. Richmond won the only match of 2020 between the clubs with a 1-0 result at City Stadium after Emiliano Terzaghi scored the go-ahead goal in the first half.

Richmond Kickers

Akira Fitzgerald (#1) continues to show that he is a top goalkeeper in the league. The veteran stands tied for first in the league with three clean sheets so far this season including two at City Stadium. Fitzgerald also is nominated for USL League One Player of the Month for April/May.

Hernan Gonzalez (#19) has provided a new look for the Kickers upfront with his presence that may help against a New England team who likes to play with possession. Against Chattanooga, Gonzalez had a passing accuracy of 87.5% in the opposition’s half and made nine good passes or crosses.

Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) has continued to play a versatile role for the Reds. While he is tied for first on the team with two goals scored, he flashed his passing and defensive efforts against Chattanooga. Terzaghi intercepted a loose ball and played a one-two to Oalex Anderson which led to the opening goal of the match.

New England Revolution II

Jake Rozhansky (#32) is a dominant force in the midfield. In his last game against Fort Lauderdale, he had a passing accuracy of 94.9% and 39 passes into the opposition’s half. His passing accuracy in the opposition’s half at the end of the match was 92.3%.

Francois Dulysse (#60) is a solid defensive center half who saw out the Fort Lauderdale match with one tackle, two clearances, four aerial duels won and a 93.9% passing accuracy. His security in the backfield adds to their possession-based play.

Ryan Sierakowski (#99) has yet to score a goal this season but continues to provide up front. With a general passing accuracy in and out of the opposition’s half of 100% and 12 good passes against Fort Lauderdale, Sierakowski will be a possessive focal point going forward.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (2-2-1) visit Chattanooga to face Red Wolves SC (2-0-1), Saturday, May 29 at CHI Memorial Stadium. Kickoff for this match is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.

Akira Fitzgerald and Jalen Crisler were each named in the USL League One Team of the Week after their spectacular defensive fortitude to keep a second-straight clean sheet at City Stadium. Jalen Crisler made seven clearances and completed 53 passes with a passing accuracy of 88.3%. Coupled with Akira Fitzgerald’s four saves and the rest of the backline, the squad was able to see the night out with the third clean sheet of the season.

Despite the scoreline, the Kickers’ attack against North Carolina was constant with the team taking 16 shots and several players registering a handful of shots on the NCFC goal. Nil Vinyals led the attack forward with 31 passes into the opposition’s half. Vinyals also gained possession eight times throughout the match, leading the rest of the squad.

Richmond sits in the top four of the league and hopes to capitalize with points earned against Chattanooga who are tied in the standings with seven points. Chattanooga just recently played against Fort Lauderdale at their home stadium, resulting in a 2-1 win with Josue España and Jason Ramos adding to the scoreline. The Red Wolves maintained 49.8% possession, managed to take 11 shots and finished the match with 81.9% passing accuracy.

The two sides played each other twice in the 2020 season, once in September and in the season finale at City Stadium at the tail-end of October. The Kickers and the Red Wolves will face each other twice in the 2021 season and Richmond will look to start off the set of matches with a win on the road before they return to City Stadium in early October.

Richmond’s next match will be back at City Stadium to take on New England, the previous fixture resulted in a 3-0 win for Richmond to kick off the season. The Kickers will face Revs II on Saturday, June 5, which will be Richmond’s Pride Night. That match is set to kick off at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Richmond Kickers

Jalen Crisler (#15) played a crucial role in another Richmond clean sheet. He made seven clearances, one interception, and gained possession four times. Having just slotted into the squad this very season, Crisler has adapted quite well. He also had the most touches (73) and led the team in total aerial duels (6) with a win percentage of 66.7 percent.

Nil Vinyals (#10) started his third straight game since joining the Kickers and scoring a goal against Fort Lauderdale. Vinyals had a passing accuracy of 81.4% and a 74.2% passing accuracy into the opposition’s half. He made five key passes and gained possession eight times from the middle of the pitch.

Matt Bolduc (#7) was all over City Stadium against NCFC. Registering two shots and one on target, he was a nuisance for their defense. Bolduc made three key passes, one good open cross and made four interceptions. Despite hitting the woodwork and having a shot blocked early on in the game, Bolduc was an essential piece in the Richmond attack and will look to convert his next shots into goals.

Chattanooga Red Wolves SC

Josue España (#10) has scored three goals this season, leading the Red Wolves in goals scored. He had an 87.9% passing accuracy against Fort Lauderdale and an 85.2% passing accuracy into the opposition’s half. España scored a brace against New England and is a prominent attacking presence.

Jason Ramos (#17) was also on the scoresheet against Fort Lauderdale. He maintained an 89.8% passing accuracy, 85.7% passing into the opposition’s half and won 100% of his duels. Ramos stands out in the midfield as not only an attacking player but a defensive piece as well with three tackles and seven gained possessions.

Jimmie Villalobos (#34) scored a goal against North Texas and assisted España for one of his goals against Fort Lauderdale. The midfield playmaker had a passing accuracy of 89.5% against Fort Lauderdale, he also made three key passes and blocked one shot.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (2-2-0) are back at City Stadium to take on North Carolina FC (0-2-0), Saturday night, May 22 at City Stadium. Kickoff for this match is set for 6:30 p.m. ET.

Richmond is coming off a return to form after a 2-0 win against Tormenta which saw Emiliano Terzaghi score two goals in the last 10 minutes of the match. Richmond is now rested after having a week off and ready to see Terzaghi and the squad firing on all cylinders again. Richmond registered 11 shots and six on target against Tormenta. Victor Falck was a rock in the midfield with an 89.7% passing accuracy and three interceptions.

North Carolina most recently played Forward Madison to what seemed like it would be a scoreless draw until the stoppage-time winner from Madison’s Derek Gebhard in the 92nd minute. North Carolina’s defense put in a solid shift for the better part of the game with 26 clearances, 20 interceptions, and five blocks across the whole team. Pecka, Malick Mbaye, and Max Flick all had significant passing accuracies with 88.6%, 83.7%, and 86.5%, respectively.

Despite beginning the season winless in its first two matches, North Carolina have shown real resolve with the near result in Madison as well as a vigorous performance against the defending league champions Greenville Triumph SC. Its match against Triumph was a 2-1 loss which had Selmir Miscic open North Carolina’s scoring account for the season with a 15th minute equalizer before Greenville’s Lachlan McLean found the go-ahead goal in the 65th minute.

Richmond and North Carolina are two of the few USL League One clubs that have a history outside of the league’s three-year existence. North Carolina, previously known as the Carolina Railhawks, were founded in 2006. The two teams have played against each other many times in the USL1, the USL Championship, and the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup since the Carolina franchise’s inaugural 2007 season. Since 2018, the two clubs have matched up five times with Richmond winning three of those ties.

Richmond will look to make it two straight wins at home this weekend before they head out on the road for their next match to take on the Chattanooga Red Wolves on May 29th at 7:00 p.m. ET. Chattanooga currently sit two points below Richmond in the table but have only played three games this season resulting in one win over North Texas and a draw against New England Revolution.

Richmond Kickers

Nil Vinyals (#10) made his starting debut against Fort Lauderdale, and also his scoring debut. Vinyals made two key passes, led the team with 21 passes into the opposition’s half and had a passing accuracy of 81% in the opposition’s half.

Ivan Magalhães (#4) has held down the center back spot for the first three games this season, starting with a clean sheet against New England. Magalhães made an incredibly acrobating defensive header against Greenville and had the most successful passes on the team against Fort Lauderdale with 35. Despite being a defensive player Magalhães still managed 17 passes into the opposition’s half.

Victor Falck (#23) had a 74.3% passing accuracy in the match against Greenville, and 75% against New England. His partnership with Zaca Moran provides a sturdy defensive presence in the middle of the pitch. Falck won 100% of his aerial duels against Greenville. Look for him to provide a solid backbone against a physical Tormenta team.

North Carolina FC

Max Flick (#4) played a crucial role in holding down the North Carolina defense for the better part of the match against Forward Madison. He made 52 passes and 86.5% passing accuracy coupled with two clearances and one interception.

Luis Arriaga (#8) managed to create one chance and take one shot in the match against Forward Madison with a 79.3% passing accuracy. In the previous match against Greenville he managed 27 passes into the opposition’s half and four interceptions.

Malick Mbaye (#5) was a solid central defender and distributor in his matches against Greenville and with an 86.1% passing accuracy, and 83.7% against Forward Madison and also made 10 clearances and two blocks.

Match Preview: Richmond Returns To City Stadium To Face Tormenta FC This Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (1-2-0) return to City Stadium to take on South Georgia Tormenta FC (1-2-0), Saturday night, May 8 at City Stadium. Kickoff for this match is set for 6:30 p.m. ET. This match will be presented by Puritan Cleaners and supported by Newport Academy.

The tie between Richmond and Tormenta is a relatively newer matchup. Having only played Tormenta five times between the 2019 and 2020 season, Richmond look forward to getting back into a winning form against a Tormenta side with the same record. Tormenta trails just behind in the league standings on goal

differential, having four goals scored against them.

Richmond hope to bounce back from the previous match against Fort Lauderdale. The Kickers took 16 shots and had five on target and saw a lineup change with Oalex Anderson on the wing and Nil Vinyals for a change from the two previous weeks. The additional time for Nil Vinyals saw him open up his scoring account with Richmond and gave fans another attacking presence to watch for. Oalex Anderson took four shots, one of them was blocked and another went just wide of the post nearly adding to the Kickers scoreline.

Tormenta’s previous matchup was against Tucson where they scored their only goals for the season thus far after two scoreless losses. Their first two losses were against Fort Lauderdale and Union Omaha where they kept the majority of the possession for each match with 63% and 42% respectively. Coincidentally, the match they won against Tucson saw them hold less possession with 40%.

After the Tormenta matchup, Richmond will have a full two-week break until their return to City Stadium against North Carolina FC. North Carolina will play their first match of the 2021 season against Greenville this Saturday, and will be playing a Richmond team that is four games in and catching their stride.

Richmond Kickers

Nil Vinyals (#10) continues to impress and make his mark on this Kickers squad. He registered three shots, two on target and one blocked. Vinyals also had a passing accuracy of 80.8% and made 18 good passes and crosses.

Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) scored twice in a matter of 10 minutes last time out with a goal in the box off an assist by Oalex Anderson then a second from the penalty spot. Terzaghi matched Viinyals for three shots, two on target and one blocked as well.

Victor Falck (#23) was a standout performer in the midfield. He made 20 passes into the opposition half with a 90% passing accuracy. He made 35 successful passes or crosses and had two shots. Falck also put in a significant defensive performance with three interceptions and one block.

Tormenta FC

Sergi Nus (#5) is an excellent ball playing center back, and his 90.5% passing accuracy against New England shows that. He also made 27 passes into the opposition’s half that game with 74.1%. That same match he made 82 good passes or crosses. Nus managed 30 good passes or crosses against Union Omaha, made two clearances and one interception.

Curtis Thorn (#23) is a defensive outside back who scored against Tucson and had a passing accuracy of 89.3% and a passing accuracy in the opposition’s half with 85%. Paired with his impressive defensive capabilities, he is a player to keep an eye out for. He made three clearances, one interception and one block against Tucson.

Joshua Phelps (#77) is the central attacker in a Tormenta three-man front line and scored against Tucson in the 10th minute. His passing accuracy for the match was at 76.9% and his passing accuracy in the opposition’s half was 70%. Scoring the first goal for this Tormenta side of the 2021 season should give him some incentive.

Match Preview: Richmond Takes On Fort Lauderdale Away From Home This Sunday

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (1-1-0) visit South Florida to take on Fort Lauderdale CF (1-2-0), Sunday night, May 2 at DRV PNK Stadium. Kickoff for this match is set for 7:30 p.m. ET.

This match will be only the second meeting between the two clubs, the first being September 2020. Richmond won the tie in September after Emiliano Terzaghi scored two goals. Although Fort Lauderdale dominated possession with 64%, Richmond pulled away with 11 shots and six on target. The first of Terzaghi’s two goals saw the Kickers’ forward receive the ball from a throw-in, turn and dribble past several players before drilling a shot into the top corner of the goal. The second of his goals for the outing can be attributed partially to a corner kick by Ryley Kraft placed right at Terzaghi at the near post who flicked it on behind him to beat Dylan Castanheira in between the Fort Lauderdale goal posts.

Richmond will look to continue their impressive form in defense which saw Zaca Moran gain possession 10 times, make five tackles, and have one block in their first match against New England. Moran wasn’t the only outstanding defensive performance. Juan Pablo Monticelli who was the USL League One Player of the Week, even managed to score a goal without skirting his defensive responsibilities by making five clearances, two interceptions and gained possession six times. Akira Fitzgerald made three saves last week out against Greenville. Partnered with Ivan Magalhães’ three tackles, clearances, and interceptions the Richmond defense continues to improve.

The Kickers will head into this match looking to continue demonstrating their attacking prowess and new signings, as well as their defensive abilities which saw them hold a clean sheet against New England and kept the defending USL League One champs to just three shots on target.

Fort Lauderdale CF have played New England, Tormenta and North Texas scoring only 3 goals and winning just one of their three matchups with Shaan Hundal and Venton Evans scoring two and one goals, respectively. Fort Lauderdale’s goalkeeper leads the league in saves with seven and Modesto Mendez, the defensive back has the most passes in the league with 157 and the team as a whole has the most passes in the league thus far with 1,124 passes.

Richmond Kickers

Jonathan Bolanos (#17) scored the Richmond Kickers opening goal for the 2021 season against New England with an impressive chipped ball over New England’s goalkeeper. Bolanos’ passing accuracy in the opposition’s half against New England was at an impressive 92.9%. He made 16 passes into Greenville’s half and had a 74% passing accuracy.

Oalex Anderson (#11) did not start against Greenville this past weekend but scored in a matter of minutes against New England with an impressive acrobatic chip over the goalkeeper from an awkward angle after a lightning speed burst of pace. Though he did not manage to score against Greenville, his entrance into the left-wing immediately made a dangerous impact to Greenville’s backline taking three shots and creating one chance in only 15 minutes of being on the field.

Zaca Moran (#6) continues to prove why he was signed this offseason for the Kickers. He was named in the USL League One Team of the Week for Week 3, and is a huge presence both defensively and offensively in the middle of the pitch. Zaca’s passing moving forward in the season will prove to be a huge proponent in this new Kickers team. With an 80% passing accuracy against New England and 84% against Greenville and even creating four chances against Greenville.

Fort Lauderdale CF

Shaan Hundal (#10) has already scored two goals this season and will be looking to add more to his tally. He seems to be a clinical finisher this season converting one of his two chances against Tormenta FC. Then in his match against North Texas, he scored a goal with his only shot on target, had a 100% passing accuracy and won three fouls.

Modesto Mendez (#17) is a competent defensive back when distributing the ball from the back and his 1124 passes in the league so far prove it. His passing accuracy against New England was at 97.3% and he completed 71 of his 73 passes. Mendez also had a passing accuracy of 85.7% in New England’s half.

Roberto Poplawski (#34) plays in the middle of the park and led the Fort Lauderdale squad in total passes(49) and most successful passes(37) in their match against Tormenta to win the game with a passing accuracy of 75.5%. Paired with a clinical finisher like Hundal, Poplawski is a player that may help to unlock the Fort Lauderdale squad.

Match Preview: Richmond Home Opener at City Stadium Welcomes Greenville Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (1-0-0) welcome Greenville Triumph (0-0-0) to the home opener for the 2021 season, this Saturday night, April 24 at City Stadium, presented by Bon Secours. Kickoff for this match is set for 6:30 p.m. ET. A competition between the two clubs, this match marks the start of the third season of the Bon Secours Cup.

This match will be the third meeting between the two clubs since August 2020. Greenville pulled away from the first matchup with a 3-2 win, then later Richmond returned the favor with a 2-1 win from home at City Stadium. In the several years since Greenville Triumph was formed the two clubs have matched up on three separate occasions apart from the shortened 2020 season. The first tie between the clubs resulted in a Kickers 1-0 win with Joe Gallardo knocking in the only goal of the match. About a month later, the two would face each other again, only this time Greenville would come out the victors with a 1-0 win from Jake Keegan’s lone goal. The final matchup of 2019 would see the Kickers come out on top for the 2nd time of the season. This time around, Braeden Troyer would knock in the only goal to ensure yet another Richmond win over Greenville.

The first of the pair of fixtures between the two teams saw Greenville edge a slight advantage over Richmond in their first game of the 2020 season. The scoring opened with an own goal by an attempted clearance that was deflected into the goal. At 36 minutes Matt Bolduc opened the scoring account for the Kickers’ 2020 season after an assist from Wahab Ackwei. The start of the second half saw another own goal from Richmond as Greenville took the lead again 2-1. In the 69th minute, Greenville scored following a counter-attack down the wing and a cross centrally placed by Tyler Polak for Jake Keegan to finish. Richmond answered back with a goal in the 74th minute after Jonathan Bolanos made his first professional debut, with a cross aimed right for Emiliano Terzaghi’s head which he flicked back into the goal to open his Kickers scoring account.

The reverse fixture favored the Kickers team at home in City Stadium. Richmond’s 2-1 win saw Matt Bolduc serve up the assist to open up the scoring with Emiliano Terzaghi’s finish for the goal just 14 minutes into the match. Just under 30 minutes into the half Greenville answered back with a goal off of a corner kick that fell into the box and at the feet of Brandon Fricke. Ryley Kraft would go on to cement Richmond’s lead over Greenville with a goal after a goal post deflection dropped the ball right at his feet. With the victory, Richmond hoisted the Bon Secours Cup for a second straight season.

The Kickers will head into this match looking to find their stride after a positive outing at New England last weekend. A couple of key additions to the squad since the 2020 season are forward Hernan Gonzalez and midfielder Zaca Moran, who was presented with the Man of the Match award. An honorable mention to Juan Pablo Monticelli who was named the USL League One Player of the Week after not only scoring a goal but helping Richmond keep a clean sheet for the match.

Greenville has yet to play a regular-season match in the 2021 season and the former USL League One title-winners will be facing a Richmond squad that is riding the wave off a 3-0 clean-sheet win against New England. Richmond did not let a single shot on target against New England, and successfully blocked three shots, and made 28 clearances to keep the clean sheet. Greenville won 8 of their 11 victories by a one-goal margin throughout the 2020 season and did retain their U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame coach John Harkes for the 2021 season and saw the arrival of three new players: Don Smart, Mario Lomis, and Jacob Goodall.

Richmond Kickers

Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) won the USL League One Golden Boot last season scoring 10 goals in the league and playing 1,243 minutes. Coming into the league last season from Argentina, Terzaghi has added much firepower to the Kickers attack. Terzaghi did not manage to score but took three shots on the goal, and had one shot blocked, keeping the New England defense on their heels. Terzaghi had a 60% passing accuracy in the opposition’s half and despite not continuing his scoring form from the previous season he continues to provide a significant attacking output.

Juan Pablo Monticelli (#2) is a new addition to the Kickers, playing as a defensive outside back, Monticelli scored a goal in his debut game with the Kickers and was awarded the USL League One Player of the Week after helping Richmond maintain a clean sheet in their 3-0 win. Monticelli was not only a rock in the defense, but provided an option going forward as well with an 85.7% passing accuracy in the opposition’s half completing 17 of 22 passes. He made five clearances, two tackles, and two interceptions.

Zaca Moran (#6) completes the Argentine trifecta at Richmond. Recording two assists this preseason playing from the midfield, Zaca and his former River Plate experience will help link all phases of play for the Richmond Kickers. Moran was presented with the Man of the Match award for the match at New England after an impressive all-around performance. On the defensive side, he had five tackles and gained possession 10 times, the most of any other player in the squad. Moran also made the most successful passes in the team with 36 and a passing accuracy of 80%.

Greenville Triumph SC

Don Smart (#10) is a new arrival to this Greenville squad. Coming from a notable scoring season at Forward Madison in 2020 with nine goals, Smart is an addition that should help reinforce the scoring margin that kept Greenville on top of the league last season.

Dallas Jaye (#22) won the Golden Glove over the last two seasons with Greenville and led the league last season with nine shutouts and had a 0.69 goals-against average which helped Greenville retain their 11 victories last season.

Alex Morrell (#7) was a key player in Greenville’s attacking output for 2020, his efforts earned him a spot in the All-League First Team of 2020 after he finished the season with five goals and six assists. Morrell is a creative attacking player whose 32 created chances and 27 completed dribbles present a looming danger for opposition.

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, April 16, 2021) – The Richmond Kickers (0-0-0) travel to Gillette Stadium this Saturday night, April 17 to open up the 2021 USL League One season against New England Revolution II (1-0-0). Kickoff for this match is set for 5:00 p.m. ET.

This match will be the third meeting between the two clubs as New England heads into their second season. The series is level at a win apiece after the two matches last season, both victories for the road team.

Richmond picked up the 2-1 victory the last time the team was at Gillette Stadium back on August 21, 2020. Matt Bolduc served up the assist on Emiliano Terzaghi’s fourth goal of the season to open up the scoring for the Kickers in the 54th minute. Mayele Malango came off the bench for New England to level the score in the 71st minute. With eight minutes left in the match, Ian Antley dropped in a picture-perfect cross into the box to pick out Ryley Kraft at the back post for the game-winner.

Back at City Stadium on October 3, 2020, New England took a 4-0 win on the road. Orlando Sinclair put the visitors up 23 minutes into the match. Eight minutes later Nicolas Firmino converted from the penalty spot, giving the Revs the lead heading into the break. An own goal gave New England the three-goal lead in the 81st minute. Two minutes later, Damian Rivera found a fourth goal for the visitors.

Richmond has a solid core of 13 returning players to the squad, led by the 2020 USL League One MVP and Golden Boot Winner, Emiliano Terzaghi. The Argentine scored 10 goals in 15 matches in his first season with the club. Akira Fitzgerald is back for his third season with the club, also now filling the role of Goalkeeper Coach after posting a league-high 50 saves last season.

The Kickers will head into this match with 10 new faces putting on a Richmond shirt this season. A couple of key additions to the squad are forward Hernan Gonzalez and midfielder Zaca Moran. Since joining the club, Gonzalez has found the back of the net three times over the three preseason matches played. A product of the historic club River Plate, Moran has found his place during the preseason in command of the midfield for Richmond and assisting on two goals.

New England comes into this match after opening up their season last Saturday on the road at Fort Lauderdale CF, taking a 1-0 road win. Coming out of halftime scoreless, Hikaru Fujiwara set up Ryan Sierakowski for the lone goal of the match in the 50th minute. Former Kickers goalkeeper Joe Rice earned his first shutout of the season only having to make one save.

Richmond Kickers

Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) won the USL League One Golden Boot last season scoring 10 goals in the league and playing 1,243 minutes. Coming into the league last season from Argentina, Terzaghi has added much firepower to the Kickers attack.

Hernan Gonzalez (#19) is a new Argentine international addition to the Kickers playing as a forward. He has already scored three goals in three matches with the team in preseason, linking up nicely with his fellow Argentines.

New England Revolution II

Ryan Sierakowski (#99) opened the USL League One season by scoring not only the league’s opening goal but his individual debut goal with the Revolution after just 50 minutes. Sierakowski has prior USL Championship experience having made over 33 appearances with Portland Timbers II, recording eight goals and two assists.

Hikaru Fujiwara (#53) started off the season registering his first assist with Sierakowski’s finish. Fujiwara was competent in his midfield play finishing the game with a passing accuracy of 84.6% and recording 11 passes in the opposition’s half. Fujiwara began playing for the Revolution Academy with the U-14 team.

Jake Rozhansky (#32) pushed forward through the center of the midfield with a passing accuracy of 87.5% in the opposition’s half and completing 32 of 37 passes, including two key passes. He also made three interceptions and three blocks to finish off the match against Fort Lauderdale.

Preview: The Kickers Close Out Regular Season at Home Saturday

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, October 23, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers (8-5-2) close out the 2020 USL League One regular season this Saturday night at City Stadium as they play host to Chattanooga Red Wolves SC (5-5-4), presented by Rybec Insurance with Allstate. Chattanooga leads the overall series against the Kickers, taking four wins to the Kickers one win over the last two seasons. This will mark the second time these two clubs will meet this season. The Kickers made the trek to CHI Memorial Stadium back on September 12, falling on the road to the Red Wolves 1-2. Emiliano Terzaghi opened up the scoring, putting away a volley from Matt Bolduc in the 13th minute. Chattanooga responded in the 54th minute as Tanner Dieterich leveled the score. Steven Beattie came off the bench to score the game-winner in second half stoppage time.

Richmond is coming off a strong offensive performance, taking a 3-1 road win at Orlando City B Wednesday. OCB took the lead after just eight minutes from a goal by Kenji Tanaka. Orlando was dealt an early blow as Daniel Rosario saw a straight red card in the 24th minute, which forced the home side to play a man down the remainder of the match. Mutaya Mwape scored his first goal of the season in the 36th minute from a set up by Greg Boehme to level it. Stanley Alves scored not only the go-ahead goal, but his first professional goal after Mumbi Kwesele laid it off for the forward in the 51st minute. Oalex Anderson completed the trifecta of first goals of the season when he fought off his defender to find the back of the net for the insurance goal in the 64th minute.

Red Wolves SC battled Forward Madison to a 1-1 draw at CHI Memorial Stadium last Saturday afternoon. The referee pointed to the spot after Greg Hurst was brought down by a late tackle from Gustavo Fernandes inside the Madison box. Hurst converted from the penalty spot eight minutes into the match to get Chattanooga out in front early. Michael Vang found the equalizer in the 69th minute as both teams shared the points.

The scenarios for making the USL League One Final are simple for the Kickers. A victory over Chattanooga will see Richmond head to the Final at Greenville. With a draw, the Kickers would need either an Omaha loss or a draw against Fort Lauderdale for Richmond to advance. A loss on Saturday would mean that the Kickers will need both Omaha to lose their match and North Texas either draw or lose their match against Tormenta FC.

Midfielder Mutaya Mwape (#10) scored his first goal the season to level the score against Orlando Wednesday. The Zambian made his 12th appearance this season, and seventh start to go with an assist. Forward Stanley Alves (#9) made his third start of the season and scored his first professional goal against Orlando. A product of University of Massachusetts, Lowell, Alves has played in ten matches in his rookie season. Forward Oalex Anderson (#15) scored his first goal for the Kickers as the insurance goal at OCB. Joining later in the season, Anderson made his second start and fifth appearance for Richmond.

Chattanooga Red Wolves SC

Forward Greg Hurst (#11) leads Chattanooga in scoring with seven goals this season. He sits tied for second overall in the league behind Emiliano Terzaghi with his ten goals. Forward Mark Hernandez (#20) has four assists this season to lead the team. The Anaheim, Ca. native also has three goals in 11 matches this season for the Red Wolves. Goalkeeper Alex Mangels (#24) is in his second season in Chattanooga and holds a 1.14 goals against average heading into Saturday’s match in Richmond. The product of the University of California, Berkeley has three clean sheets through 14 matches.

Preview: The Kickers Head to Orlando Wednesday

RICHMOND, Va. – (Tuesday, October 20, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers (7-5-2) start a busy week Wednesday morning at Osceola Heritage Park to take on Orlando City B (1-9-3). This match is set to kickoff at 11:00 a.m. and will air live on WTVR CBS 6.3 (Comcast 206, Verizon FiOS 466) and on ESPN+.

This will be the second meeting this year between the two clubs, and the final time these two clubs will meet in USL League One after Orlando announced that they will withdraw from the league following the conclusion of the season. With a series that dates back to both club’s time in the USL Championship, Richmond holds the overall advantage with a 5-2-1 record.

Jonathan Bolanos scored his first two professional goals back on October 7 to lead the Kickers to victory over OCB the first time these two clubs played this season. He found the opener in the 27th minute after Orlando looked to clear away a corner kick. The rookie pounced on the loose ball and fired in a shot to find the back of the net. He was brought down in the 43rd minute inside the OCB box to draw a penalty. Bolanos stepped up to convert the penalty. Orlando would pull a goal back late in stoppage time as Jonathan Rosales found Wilfredo Rivera for the goal.

Richmond will be looking to get back to winning ways after falling to South Georgia Tormenta FC 0-1 last Saturday night. On the last touch before the halftime, whistle Nil Vinyals slotted the ball through for Marco Micaletto to score the lone goal of the match. This would be the first time this season that the Kickers have been defeated in two straight matches, and only the third time they have been held scoreless this season.

Orlando is back at home after traveling out west to face FC Tucson last Saturday, falling 0-2 on the road. After coming on as a first half substitute, Joshua Coan finished the match with a brace. Late in first half stoppage time, Charlie Dennis played a simple pass to Coan in space inside the OCB box. He just cut back to his left foot to curl in his shot for the opener. Manuel Ferriol found Coan out wide on the left in acres of space in the 90th minute, this time he only needed to chip the shot around Austin Aviza for his second of the night to seal the three points.

The Kickers will close out the regular season this Saturday night at City Stadium as they host Chattanooga Red Wolves SC, presented by Rybec Insurance with Allstate. Defender Scott Thomsen (#3) had seven recoveries in the last outing against Tormenta FC Saturday night. Thomsen has made an appearance in each of the 14 matches in his fourth season with Richmond. Midfielder Victor Falck (#23) has been a consistent piece in the midfield for Richmond this season, logging 1203 minutes in 14 matches in his rookie year. He ranks second in the club for blocks with seven and third in interceptions with 16. Defender Kyle Venter (#12) recorded four clearances against Tormenta, bringing his season total to 47. The captain leads the club in passes with 570 passes this season.

Orlando City B

Forward Wilfredo Rivera (#62) leads the team in scoring with three goals, including the late goal against the Kickers on October 7. The native of San Juan, Puerto Rico signed an academy contract with OCB after spending the last three years in the Orlando City SC Academy. He has three caps with the Puerto Rico U17 National Team. Midfielder Austin Amer (#46) completed 88 percent of his 50 passes Saturday night in Tucson. He is in his second season with OCB after signing from the Orlando City SC Academy. Goalkeeper Austin Aviza (#61) made four saves in the club’s last outing at Tucson. He made five saves against the Kickers the last time these two teams met.

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, October 16, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers (7-4-2) return home to City Stadium this Saturday night to host South Georgia Tormenta FC (3-6-4), presented by Elephant Insurance. This match will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two clubs. The series between the teams is level with a 1-1-2 record, after the only other match this season back on July 28 where both teams played to a scoreless draw at Erk Russell Park. Akira Fitzgerald came up with a season-high eight saves, with seven of those coming in the second half.

Richmond is coming off a 1-2 road defeat to North Texas SC last Saturday night at Globe Life Park. The home side took a 2-0 lead into halftime after goals from Alex Bruce and Edwin Munjoma. The Kickers responded in the 60th minute after Oalex Anderson was tackled from behind in the North Texas box, forcing the referee to point to the penalty spot. Emiliano Terzaghi stepped up to score his league-leading tenth goal of the season to pull a goal back. Despite some frantic moments late into the match, Richmond could not find the equalizer.

Tormenta FC had a week and a half layoff since their last match, falling 0-1 to FC Tucson at Erk Russell Park back on October 7. Tucson managed to take the lead in the 33rd minute. Samuel Biek played a long ball forward. The Tormenta backline tried to get control of the ball, but it was misplayed a couple times at the back, providing the opening for Azaad Liadi to get to the ball. He picked Giovanni Godoy, who only needed to cut the ball back to his right foot before going for the shot that found the back of the net.

The Kickers have another tight turnaround after Saturday’s match, traveling down to face Orlando City B at Osceola Heritage Park. It is an early 11:00 a.m. kickoff for this match, which will air live on WTVR CBS 6.3 and on ESPN+.

Forward Oalex Anderson (#15) made his first start since joining the Kickers late in the season. The Saint Vincent and the Grenadines international drew the penalty that set up the goal for Richmond at North Texas. Midfielder Jonathan Bolanos (#17) nabbed Team of the Week honors this week after his two goal performance against Orlando City B last Wednesday night. The rookie has made 12 appearances, including five starts and contributed an assist to go with his two goals. Midfielder Ryley Kraft (#98) is tied for third overall in USL League One for assists with four this season. He has two goals this season, both of which were game-winners.

South Georgia Tormenta FC

Midfielder Luca Mayr (#7) leads Tormenta in scoring this season with three goals in 13 matches. He is also tied on the team with one assist in his second professional season. Midfielder Marco Micaletto (#10) is tied for the assist lead for the club with two assists, along with Ricardo Gomez. Micaletto is in his second season with Tormenta after signing with the club from the club’s second team in USL League Two, South Georgia Tormenta FC 2. Goalkeeper Pablo Jara (#1) sits in third in USL League One with 39 saves this season. Jara is another product of Tormenta FC 2 and is also in his second season with the club.
