RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, August 14, 2021) – The Richmond Kickers (5-6-5) return home to City Stadium to host the MLS-affiliate side, New England Revolution II (7-7-1) for the third time of the 2021 season.
The last matchup between Richmond and New England Revolution II was at City Stadium in early June. Richmond celebrated a 3-2 win over Revs II, marking their second three-goal game against the side this season. Richmond’s first match of the season was in New England against Revs II, Richmond held a clean sheet and put three past the MLS-affiliate side, earning a comfortable three points to start the season.
Richmond’s last outing was at Toronto FC II. TFC II enjoyed their return to Canada after playing the first half of the season split between two different venues. Due to travel restrictions, several Kickers players were unable to play in Toronto, which made way for several of the newer faces and players returning from injury to gain some match fitness. Ty Johnson, a 17-year-old from Richmond United made his pro debut and Devante Dubose made his first appearance after recovering from a knee injury sustained in the opening weeks of the 2020 season.
The match began with an unfortunate own goal deflection into the back of Richmond’s goal, giving Toronto an early lead. Richmond, content with soaking up pressure to counter-attack, strung together a set of passes to find Nil Vinyals running at the goal in the penalty box. Vinyals was taken down in the box and Richmond was awarded a penalty kick. Vinyals stepped up to the spot and sent Caleb Patterson-Sewell diving the wrong way to equalize.
For the next 40 minutes or so, both teams struggled to find the space necessary to convert their attacking opportunities into goals. But, around the 69th minute, Antonio Carlini found space at the top of the Richmond box and curled a well-placed shot into the goal-netting. Toronto FC II would see out the remainder of the match on top and get their three points at home.
New England Revolution II’s last match was against Richmond’s regional rivals, North Carolina FC. New England held a clean sheet at home and slotted three past North Carolina. Damian Rivera, Revs II’s highest scorer, scored the first goal, and Edward Kizza scored a brace in the second half. Revs 11 had 19 shots in total, won 57 duels, and finished with an 86.2% passing accuracy.
Richmond’s next match will be back on the road as the Kickers’ next matchup after New England Revolution II will be a rematch against Greenville Triumph. The Kickers faced Greenville in the opening match at City Stadium of the 2021 season. Greenville squeezed a win out of the game despite finishing the match with 10 men. Emboldened to pack up the defense with limited counter attacks, the reigning 2020 League One title winners put a ball into a dangerous area that ended with an unfortunate own goal by the Kickers. Greenville saw out the remainder of the match relentlessly defending their goal despite the Reds’ efforts to find a late equalizer. The match is set for August 22nd with kickoff at 7:00 p.m.

Juan Pablo Monticelli (#2) has scored in each match against New England this season, both coming from corner kicks. Monticelli just returned to the starting XI after picking up a knock against North Texas SC. Monticelli has 31 interceptions (second-most in the team), 27 blocks (third-most in the team), and an assist to go along with his two goals against New England.
Zaca Moran (#6) was absent in the match against Toronto FC II, however, he showed in the last match at City Stadium against FC Tucson how effective he is in the center of the park. Moran has an 81.3 percent passing accuracy, 21 interceptions (third-most in the team), and 41 tackles (most in the team). Look for Moran to be the link between the defensive and attacking lines.
Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) was awarded the USL League One Cleer Audio July Player of the Month award for his five goals throughout the month of July. Terzaghi maintained a passing accuracy of over 80 percent throughout five matches. Terzaghi is currently tied for second place in the running for the Golden Boot award he won last season.
Jake Rozhansky (#32) is New England’s top assister with five assists this season so far. Rozhansky is a central midfielder with a knack for playmaking. He has a passing accuracy of 93.1 percent (highest in the team) and has won over 50 percent of his duels. Rozhansky is a midfielder who can break up play and start new ones.
Damian Rivera (#72) is the leading goal scorer for Revs II with four goals. Rivera averages two shots a game and has a passing accuracy of 76.1 percent. Rivera is a menace at the top of the box and cannot be allowed much space.
Sean O’Hearn (#40) has played in several positions along the defensive line. Regardless of his positioning, O’Hearn is a strong defensive player who leads the team in clearances with 44 and blocks with nine. O’Hearn has won 78 percent of his tackles throughout the season. Look for O’Hearn to break up plays on the wings or in the New England box.
RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Kickers (4-5-5) return to City Stadium after completing a three matches in seven days gauntlet last week to host FC Tucson (4-5-4) for their first matchup this season. The kickoff for the match is set for 6:30 p.m.
Richmond’s previous match was the conclusion of their three matches in a week when they came from behind to earn a hard-fought point at Statesboro, Ga. against South Georgia Tormenta FC. The hosts opened up the scoring early with a penalty converted by Marco Micaletto. Richmond would proceed to turn on the burners for the rest of the first half.
Roughly 20 minutes after walking back out of the tunnel for the second half, Tormenta squeezed in another goal, but, before they had time to settle down, Richmond bounced back as Matt Bolduc pushed up the right wing and sent in a perfect cross that was met with another fantastic first-touch flick into the goal by Emiliano Terzaghi. With the scoreline 2-1, Richmond smelled blood and continued firing on all cylinders. Eventually, their resilience and relentless attacking helped Oalex Anderson find another goal off the bench, leveling the scoreline and finishing their road trip with an important point.
The last time Richmond faced FC Tucson was in the 2020 season at Tucson when the match concluded in a 2-2 draw with Victor Falck and Terzaghi putting their names on the scoresheet after a 0-2 comeback. Terzaghi converted a penalty to halve the scoreline before Falck converted on a set piece in the 93rd minute to level the scoreline.
The first time the two sides played in 2020 was at City Stadium in August when the Kickers earned a 2-1 victory in only its second match at home following USL League One’s return to play earlier in July. Ivan Magalhães opened the scoring with a header off a free kick. Terzaghi doubled the lead after Tucson failed to clear the ball and Richmond recycled play back to the eventual MVP who received the pass with his back to goal before quickly turning on it and beating the keeper. Shak Adams would score a consolation goal in the waning minutes of the match.
In the first half of the 2021 season, FC Tucson’s current form is similar to Richmond’s with both sides right in the mix of a crowded midfield in the USL League One table. Both teams will look for this game to propel themselves into a better position in the table with a win potentially raising either team up two or three spots.
Tucson’s last matchup was against Union Omaha and saw Omaha finish the match 2-1 with a win at home. Tucson managed to retain more possession with 54.3% but only scraped five shots throughout the match. Half of Tucson’s team had a passing accuracy of 80% or higher and may look to retain possession against the Kickers this weekend.
Richmond’s next match will be back on the road for its first international affair since 2019, after a short-lived return to City Stadium, to line up against Toronto FC II. Nearly two years later, the sides will line up across one another once again for the first time during the 2021 season. Kickoff for the match is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, August 6.

Oalex Anderson (#11) continues to wreak havoc when he walks on the pitch. Anderson has logged 477 minutes this season with a mix of starts and second-half appearances, registering three goals and two assists in the time. Anderson averages a goal or assist every 95.4 minutes and has managed to take the second-most shots (19) in the squad. Anderson was crucial in the comeback victory against Tormenta and his form and impact continue to prove to be important for this team.
Jalen Crisler (#15) currently has the most minutes logged in the squad (1,210). Slotting into a new team in the backline, his experience has been massive as the team retooled its defense. Crisler continues to show his expertise and calmness on the ball with 51 clearances, 17 interceptions, and 13 blocks at the midpoint in the season.
Stanley Alves (#21) was a regular face on the Richmond bench for the first several games of the season, making an occasional appearance towards the end of a match. But Alves has started the last two matches and shown his hunger for a goal. Alves took five shots on the Tormenta goal, four being on target, and had a handful of brilliant plays and dribbles into space to add to the Richmond comeback draw against Tormenta. With only 266 minutes played so far this season, Alves is picking up steam entering the second half of this season.

Nil Vinyals (#10) came in off the bench against North Carolina and made 12 passes in the opposition’s half. The last time Vinyals faced off against North Texas SC was in October 2020 when he wore a South Georgia Tormenta FC shirt. The maestro banged in a worldly of a free kick in the waning minutes of the first half for his fourth outside-of-the-box goal of the season.
Juan Pablo Monticelli (#2) has meshed with the Richmond backline well over the start of the season and has contributed a few goals upfront. Monticelli made three tackles, created one chance, and one clearance. With his size and tenacity, Monticelli has been an asset for the Reds on set plays.
Ivan Magalhães (#4) was named Keiter CPA Player of the Match against North Carolina. His defensive talent combined with his attacking output to create the goal for Terzaghi proved his veteran ability and his ability to play upfront as well.
Michael Maldonaldo (#15) is a highly efficient halfback and had some impressive stats against New England despite the loss. Maldonaldo had an 88.1% passing accuracy, 90% passing accuracy in the opposition’s half as well as four tackles, two clearances, and one interception.
Gibran Rayo (#14) is a creative winger for North Texas and scored a goal against Greenville Triumph several weeks ago in their 3-0 win. Rayo had two shots on goal against New England but had both blocked by NE’s goalkeeper. Rayo will be a danger on the wing going forward.
Thibaut Jacquel (#22) is the leading goalscorer for North Texas SC with three goals but didn’t play the last match against New England. When he’s able to be on the pitch, Jacquel is a player that requires attention from the defense.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (3-3-3) head south for the second match of the season against their regional rivals, North Carolina FC (0-1-6), on June 25th. Kickoff for this match is set at 7:00 p.m.
Richmond’s previous match was against Union Omaha which proved to be an intense battle for leverage between the two sides. Union Omaha went into the match as league leaders in impressive form, but Richmond was resilient against the Omaha attack on its way to earning a point. Richmond has been unbeaten so far in the month of June and a late 76th-minute own goal — forced by a thunderous header from Jalen Crisler — helped equalize the scoreline and earn the result for the Reds.
The Kickers finished the match with more possession (55.8%) and an 81.8% passing accuracy. Akira Fitzgerald made his 50th league appearance over the weekend and showed off his valuable experience and talent with eight saves on the night. Ivan Magalhães and Crisler continued their run as the starting centerback pairing against Union Omaha’s talented front line and each made three interceptions and combined for eight clearances.
NCFC is the second team for the Kickers to face multiple times in 2021. As the Reds learned at City Stadium in May, NCFC is a young, talented team. NCFC has been in every match it’s played — never losing a match by more than a goal — yet it is still searching for its first win of the season. The team’s most recent match was against Greenville Triumph SC who conceded first to NCFC’s Jay Tee Kamara. However, the reigning league champions responded with two unanswered goals by Mario Lomis and Don Smart to win 2-1.
The last time Richmond and NCFC met was at the end of May, and the match finished in a scoreless draw. The two sides combined for 28 shots but neither could break the stalemate after 90 minutes. Matt Bolduc and Oalex Anderson forced key saves from the NCFC keeper while Nil Vinyals had an 81.4% passing accuracy with 31 passes into the opposition’s half. Malick Mbaye and Max Flick, the two central defenders for North Carolina, were monumental in keeping the scoreline level.
Richmond’s next match will be at City Stadium against North Texas SC, on July 3rd. The last time the two teams matched up was during the final weeks of the 2020 season with North Texas taking the result down in the Lone Star State.

Akira Fitzgerald (#1) made eight saves against Union Omaha’s attack and helped keep Richmond’s unbeaten-streak in June going. Fitzgerald and the Kickers lead the league in clean sheets with four, and Fitzgerald himself is in the top three goalkeepers for saves with 23.
Zaca Moran (#6) has been monumental in Richmond’s form this season. Playing as a holding midfielder, Moran provides a cushion between the midfield and the defense and helps pivot to a quicker attacking play. He made 24 passes into the opposition’s half and put in the cross for Crisler’s header that led to Richmond’s goal against Omaha.
Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) leads the team in goals scored. His play style and contribution this season has elevated the attacking side of this team. His pressure and defense upfront helped force a counter attack and goal against Chattanooga, and against New England. Look for Terzaghi to continue to make his offensive presence known.
Max Flick (#4) is a strong defensive option for NCFC, he made seven clearances, one interception and had a passing accuracy of 88% against Greenville. Flick also made 17 passes into the opposition’s half and one block. If Richmond looks to get one over on North Carolina they will need to beat Max Flick.
Jay Tee Kamara (#20) scored the opening goal against Greenville in just 11 minutes. Kamara is an agile central midfielder playing in a more advanced position and he made 31 passes into the opposition’s half against Greenville. His nimbleness and great dribbling ability will be a challenge for the Richmond defense and midfield.
Selmir Miscic (#6) is the leading goalscorer for North Carolina with three goals. Miscic made eight crosses, 20 passes into the opposition’s half and two key passes in their match against Greenville.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (3-3-2) return to City Stadium to face the league leaders, Union Omaha (5-1-2), on Saturday, June 19th. Kickoff for this match is set at 6:30 p.m. ET.
Richmond’s previous outing was an intense rivalry match against Forward Madison which saw both sides playing a physical match with neither able to break the deadlock. The match resulted in a scoreless 0-0 but saw the Kickers earn their fourth clean sheet of the season. Emiliano Terzaghi, Jalen Crisler, Ivan Magalhães and Jonathan Bolanos all kept Forward goalkeeper Chris Brady busy with shots on frame.
Crisler had an impressive game against his former club. Partnered with Magalhães, the center-back duo recorded their eighth-straight match paired together and were a major part of Richmond’s impenetrable defense. Crisler had a passing accuracy of 85.4%, made 10 clearances and had one block. Magalhães made five interceptions, made the most successful passes with 44 and had a passing accuracy of 86.3%.
Union Omaha’s last game was against New England Revolution II and resulted in a 4-2 Omaha win. Connor Presley of Revs II started the scoring for the match in the 23rd minute, then, minutes later, Greg Hurst would score the first goal of his 26-minute hat-trick which would help cement Union Omaha’s league standing. Omaha managed 20 shots against New England and had a passing accuracy of 76.1%.
With the draw against Madison, Richmond will look to take points away from Omaha to reposition themselves in the top 6 of the league table. Union Omaha are on a two-win streak right now and Richmond will look to produce another strong defensive outing to slow down the Omaha attack.
Richmond’s next match will be at North Carolina FC, June 25. The last time the two teams lined up, the match resulted in a scoreless 0-0 draw at City Stadium. This time out, Richmond will look to earn their first league win over NCFC since the two sides faced off in the USL Championship in 2018.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers (3-3-1) are on the road at Forward Madison FC (3-1-2) to battle it out in the first 2021 Henny Derby on June 12th. Kickoff for this match is set at 8:00 p.m. EST.
Richmond’s previous match against New England was an exciting five-goal thriller with the Reds taking a 3-2 win. The match began with a 28-second opening-goal by Matt Bolduc after an exciting combination of quick passing on the left wing between Nil Vinyals and Jonathan Bolanos. Bolanos sent a low cross through the New England box for Matt Bolduc to control and finish with his left foot.
With the quick goal on the scoreboard the flood, the match would stabilize and New England would find its equalizer in the 30th minute. However, Juan Pablo Monticelli responded with a thundering header off a corner kick from Vinyals just before the first half ended. Richmond would go on to set up Emiliano Terzaghi for his third goal of the season. Despite a second goal from Revs II in the 76th minute, the Kickers would see the game out on top for the remaining minutes.
The Reds finished the match with an 80.3% passing accuracy, 13 shots and seven shots on target. Akira Fitzgerald made three crucial saves that helped see out the victory orchestrated by Vinyals in the midfield. Vinyals gained possession nine times and made four interceptions apart from his two assists and one second-assist on the first goal. Bookending Monticelli’s performance up and down the left wing was Esteban Calvo. Calvo had six tackles, one of them being a last-ditch effort to block a New England shot just a few feet from goal. Calvo also had four clearances, two interceptions and an 82.4% passing accuracy.
Moving ahead, Richmond can use this Henny Derby not only to renew a top rivalry in USL League One but also to measure themselves against another playoff hopeful. Forward Madison came roaring out of the gate with a record of 3-0-1 before last weekend’s loss against the top team in the league standings, Union Omaha. Forward Madison lost out after a 70th-minute goal by Emir Alihodzic sealed the deal, but they finished the game with a 69.9% possession and an 86.7% passing accuracy.
Forward Madison have had a loss and a draw in their last two matches, but they’re a dangerous team to underestimate — especially in the second half with eight of their nine goals on the season coming in the final 45 minutes. Former Greenville Triumph SC standout Jake Keegan leads the Mingos with four goals in six matches. The first Henny Derby at Breese Stevens since 2019, bragging rights for the entire summer are on the line as the two sides won’t match up again until September 1.
Richmond’s next match will be against league leaders, Union Omaha on June 19. The last time the two teams matched up Richmond saw out a win with a 71st minute goal by Ivan Magalhães at Werner Park in Omaha. This time around Union Omaha will be coming to City Stadium to defend their league position.

Nil Vinyals (#10) was all over the midfield against New England and was named the USL League One Player of the Week for his performance. Vinyals had two assists and a second-assist, 24 passes into the opposition’s half and an 81.8% passing accuracy.
Esteban Calvo (#20) is one of the many new additions to this Richmond team in 2021, but he has slotted in comfortably at the right-back spot. He blocked a crucial shot early in the first half against New England, had an 81.8% passing accuracy into the opposition’s half, and had the most tackles of the night with six.
Matt Bolduc (#7) opened the night with a bang with a 28-second goal with his left foot. Bolduc gained possession nine times, recorded an 88.2% passing accuracy in the opposition’s half and 25 good passes and crosses.
Jake Keegan (#32) is Forward Madison’s highest scorer this season with four goals. Keegan won 100% of both his duels and aerial duels against Union Omaha and took two shots on target. Forward Madison will look to use Keegan as a central target man against the Richmond defense.
Audi Jepson (#20) was a solid option in the midfield for Forward Madison against Union Omaha. Jepson had a 91.5% passing accuracy, 54 good passes and crosses and an 87.9% passing accuracy in the opposition’s half.
Aaron Molloy (#6) plays as a deep-lying midfielder. Against Union Omaha, he made 49 passes into the opposition’s half and an 84% passing accuracy. He also led the team in tackles, with three, had one interception and gained possession seven times.
