KICKERS RETURN HOME TO HOST PENN FC SATURDAY
RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, August 14, 2018) – The Richmond Kickers (5-14-3) return home to City Stadium this Saturday night to host Penn FC (6-8-8) along with Family Fest, presented by WTVR CBS 6 and Bounce 2 the Moon. The party starts at 5:30 pm with a one-of-a-kind fun zone featuring human foosball, giant soccer darts and a 24-foot double drop slide, live music, RVA food trucks, ice cream, and over a dozen craft beers on tap. Saturday will be the final meeting between the Kickers and Penn FC this season. The first of the three previous meetings this season came in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup May 23, which saw the Kickers take the victory behind a Luiz Fernando brace and an insurance goal by Heviel Cordovés. Richmond made the first of two trips up to Penn June 12, where the home side took a 2-1 victory with goals from Isaac Osae and Dan Metzger. A late stoppage time goal from Cordovés pulled one back for the Kickers. A month later the Kickers took the trip back up to Harrisburg, with new head coach David Bulow at the helm for his second match since taking over the role. Scott Thomsen delivered an ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 free kick to put the Kickers in front after 32 minutes. Luiz Fernando netted a second for the Kickers in the 74th minute, putting away a cross from Brian Shriver. Lucky Mkosana converted a penalty kick to get Penn on the board, but it was not enough as the Kickers took their first win on the road along with the first win under Bulow. Richmond still holds a strong advantage in the overall series at 21-7-9, dating back to the 2006 season.
Richmond concluded their Canadian road trip Wednesday night in Ottawa, falling to the Fury 0-2. This match saw the debut of recent signing Prince Agyemang in the midfielder for the Kickers. Ottawa took the lead after eight minutes as Carl Haworth snuck in a free kick into the near post. Tony Taylor make it 2-0 in favor of the hosts with six minutes to go in the second half. The result came as a blow to Richmond, who held a dominating 70-30 possession throughout the match.
Penn FC took a narrow 0-1 defeat on the road to FC Cincinnati Sunday night at Nippert Stadium. Despite outshooting Cincinnati 15-11 on the evening, it was the Eastern Conference leaders that took the advantage with ten minutes to go. Emmanuel Ledesma played in a free kick that took a deflection off Penn forward Lucky Mkosana and away from keeper Romuald Peiser for the game’s only goal.
The Kickers will be back at City Stadium next Saturday night to host Louisville City FC and the Craft Beer Fest, presented by Loveland. The party starts at 5:30pm with live music, RVA food trucks, local breweries and over 30 craft beers on tap. Arrive early for access to the VIP beer garden to meet and mingle with local brewers. PLAYERS TO WATCH
Richmond: Midfielder Prince Agyemang (#38) made his Kickers debut Wednesday night in Ottawa, playing the full 90 minutes. The Right to Dream Academy product joins the Kickers following a stint with Ontinyent CF in Spain. Defender Mallan Roberts (#15) made his third straight start Wednesday after missing the majority of the season due to injury. The Canadian International is in his second season in Richmond, scoring one goal and amassing nearly 3,000 minutes over his two seasons. Midfielder Neil Hlavaty (#7) made his return to the Kickers lineup, making his eighth start and ninth appearance this season. Hlavaty came to Richmond after spending the 2017 season with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
Penn: Defender Ken Tribbett (#4) has been a strong on both sides of the ball for Penn this season, netting five goals and contributing towards five clean sheets in 17 games. Tribbett rejoined Penn this season after splitting time between the Philadelphia Union and their USL affiliate Bethlehem Steel FC the last two seasons. Forward Tommy Heineman (#29) made his return to action for Penn FC Sunday night in Cincinnati after dealing with injury issues stemming back to their match against the Kickers on July 9. Heineman has 11 appearances for the Blue and White this season, notching three goals. Midfielder Richard Menjivar (#14) fuels the Penn FC midfield this season, posting a team leading four assists over 19 games this season. The Panorama City, CA native joined Penn this season following six appearances for the New York Cosmos in 2017.

OTTAWA, Ontario — (Wednesday, August 15, 2018) — The Richmond Kickers (5-15-3) surrender a goal in each half to lose out to Ottawa Fury FC (10-10-4) Wednesday night at TD Place. Carl Haworth gave Ottawa the lead in the 8th minute from a free kick. Tony Taylor put away a cross from Steevan Dos Santos with six minutes to go to seal the victory for Fury FC.
Ottawa took the lead early from their captain, Carl Haworth in the eighth minute. Kévin Oliveria was able to draw a foul from Braeden Troyer at the top left corner of the Kickers box, setting up a free kick opportunity for the home side. Haworth stepped up to take the free kick, sending his shot just inside the near post, despite Trevor Spangenberg getting a touch on the shot for the opener.
The Kickers had a chance to level this score in the 21st minute. The build up started as Luiz Fernando sprung Neil Hlavaty up the left side of the field. He quickly fed the ball across the top of the Ottawa box for Brian Shriver, who continued switching the play across to Brandon Eaton on the right side. He just took a quick touch to play the ball into Heviel Cordovés at the six yard box, but his shot was sent over the goal and out for a goal kick.
Eddie Edward had a chance to get a second for Ottawa in the 40th minute. Kévin Oliveria picked up possession of the ball just inside the Richmond end of the field. He started to cut inside towards goal, playing the ball to Eddie Edward making a run up the right side. Edward avoided a challenge from Austin Yearwood and went for a shot towards goal before Braeden Troyer could get in the way as his shot sailed wide and out of danger.
Two minutes later, Trevor Spangenberg needed to make a save to prevent a second goal from Carl Haworth. Cristian Portillas had control of the ball deep into the Ottawa end of the pitch. Haworth was in a good position, as Portillas went for the long ball over the top. Off balance, Haworth went for a shot on goal that was easily saved by Spangenberg.
Tony Taylor had a break in the 53rd minute to get a chance for Ottawa. After grabbing a Richmond corner kick, Maxime Crépeau quickly threw the ball up to the midfield line as Taylor was making a run up the right flank. He was able to head the ball down and get away from Mekeil Williams, getting a one on one opportunity with Trevor Spangenberg. Getting into the box, Taylor was looking to get around Spangenberg as he was met by the Kickers keeper sliding through to make the stop, followed by Brandon Eaton clearing away the ball from the open net.
Braeden Troyer came close to getting the Kickers back into the match in the 75th minute. Brian Shriver chipped the ball over the top as Scott Thomsen charged up the left flank. His cross inside towards goal was deflected to the feet of Raul Gonzalez. He quickly turned with Troyer trailing in space and left the ball for him to go for a shot that just narrowly missed wide to the left of the Ottawa goal.
Heviel Cordovés tried his luck from distance in the 83rd minute. Brandon Eaton looked up to see Cordovés in a good spot in line with the Ottawa back line and sent the ball over the top. Cordovés took a touch back to free up some space around him. Without a defender, Cordovés had a go from about 25 yards out that forced the Ottawa keeper to tip the shot over the goal for a corner kick.
Six minutes to go before stoppage time, Ottawa found a second goal from Tony Taylor. Scott Thomsen sent in a corner kick trying to create a chance for the Kickers, as Steevan Dos Santos was in position to head the ball out of danger towards Brandon Eaton. Dos Santos followed the ball and as Eaton looked to play the ball back to Spangenberg, Dos Santos pounced on the loose ball and simply needed to slide a cross over for Taylor for the simple tap in for insurance goal late.

KICKERS TRAVEL TO OTTAWA WEDNESDAY
RICHMOND, Va. – (Tuesday, August 14, 2018) – The Richmond Kickers (5-14-3) continue their Canadian road trip Wednesday night as they head to TD Place to take on Ottawa Fury FC (9-10-4). Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be available live on ESPN+.
Ottawa claimed all six points between the first two meetings between the clubs in 2017. The first came at City Stadium April 15, where a midfield shot by Steevan Dos Santos was the dagger for the Kickers looking to pick up an early season home victory. A little over a month later, Richmond traveled up to Ottawa May 27 and battled to an enthralling 3-5 loss at TD Place. D.C. United loanee Alhaji Kamara netted a hat trick for the Kickers, but that would not be enough as goals from Lance Rozeboom, Tucker Hume, Jimmy Shammar Sanon and two from Sito Seoane downed the Kickers on the road.
Richmond will be looking to get back into the win column Wednesday night after falling to Toronto FC II Sunday night at BMO Field in the first leg of their Canadian road trip. The Kickers and TFC II headed into the locker rooms at halftime deadlocked at 0-0. Three minutes into the second half, Liam Fraser sprung Jordan Hamilton into space in behind the Kickers backline and only needed to slot his shot past Trevor Spangenberg to claim all three points.
Ottawa comes into Wednesday’s match on the heels of a 0-2 road loss to Nashville SC Friday night. Matt LaGrassa put the home side up in the 31st minute as Lebo Moloto played in a cross in front of goal. Brandon Allen converted from the penalty spot to double the Nashville lead in the 59th minute as they held on the the shutout and the victory at First Tennessee Park.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Richmond: Forward Heviel Cordovés (#16) made his return to the Starting XI Sunday night, having three shots for the Kickers to try and get on the scoreboard. The Cuban international has made 17 appearances this season, with 11 of those being starts and logging 968 minutes. Goalkeeper Trevor Spangenberg (#1) came out of Sunday’s match having made six saves over the 90 minutes. Spangenberg made his seventh appearances this season, where he has made 33 saves. Midfielder Matt Bolduc (#11) created three chances for the Kickers Sunday night in Toronto, making his fourth start of the season. The Peterborough, NH native has logged 402 minutes over eight appearances in his second season with the Kickers.
Ottawa: Goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau (#16) recorded three saves last Friday night, tying him for eighth overall in the USL along with Kickers goalkeeper Travis Worra at 58 saves. The Canadian international is also tied for third for shutouts this season with 10 on the year. Forward Steevan Dos Santos (#8) played 60 minutes against Nashville, where he created two chances for the visitors. Making 18 appearances this season, Dos Santos is tied with Kévin Oliveira with four goals apiece for Ottawa this season. Defender Eddie Edward (#3) made two tackles and added five clearances Friday night in Nashville. Edward has played 1,800 minutes over 20 games this season with Ottawa.

TORONTO — (Sunday, August 12, 2018) — The Richmond Kickers (5-14-3) suffered defeat on the road to Toronto FC II (2-16-3) Sunday night at BMO Field. Coming out of halftime scoreless, Jordan Hamilton scored the lone goal of the match to down the Kickers.
The Kickers had a chance just three minutes into the match to try to get on the scoreboard. Brian Shriver controlled the ball on the right side of the field after a deflected pass from Raul Gonzalez reaches him. Luiz Fernando started a run to the top of the six-yard box as Shriver sent in a perfectly timed cross. Fernando gets a touch on the ball, but sends his shot over the goal.
Four minutes later and Trevor Spangenberg is called into action to keep Toronto out of the back of the net. Dante Campbell was able to pounce on a loose ball just outside the Richmond box. He quickly played the ball back for Liam Fraser, who went for the one-time shot on frame. Spangenberg was able to get a hand on the ball to tip it over for a corner kick.
Richmond continued the pressure into the 13th minute. Scott Thomsen fed the ball up the left side of the field for Luiz Fernando inside the Toronto box. He looked up and played a quick pass to the feet of Heviel Cordovés making a near post run. With Robert Boskovic pressuring, Cordovés put his shot just wide left of the goal as he was trying to find the opener.
One minute later and it was Heviel Cordovés with a chance again. From the center of the field, Fernando found Matt Bolduc with space on the right side of the field. He found Cordovés making a run inside towards the near post, and put his shot wide as Lars Eckenrode is there pressuring.
Luca Uccello had his shot saved by Spangenberg in the 19th minute. Liam Fraser took control of the ball inside the center circle, and looked up to find Uccello in space out wide on the right flank. He continued his run all the way up the field into the Richmond box before he tried a shot towards the far post. Spangenberg fell to his right to make the save.
Another save from Trevor Spangenberg kept the game level in the 26th minute. Tsubasa Endoh was able to get control of a loose pass by Raul Gonzalez and made a run towards goal. He cut back across the top of the Kickers box and went for a shot at the near post as Spangenberg dove to his right and tip it wide of goal.
Three minutes into the second half, Toronto would break the deadlock through Jordan Hamilton. Aidan Daniels played the ball to Liam Fraser in the middle of the field. He looked up and found Hamilton making a run in behind the Kickers backline. Hamilton just calmly slotted the ball past Spangenberg and into the near post for the opener.
Brian Shriver had a chance to get Richmond back into the match in the 53rd minute. Matt Bolduc found the right flank empty and made a run. Matthew Srbely came in to try and stop Bolduc, as he played the ball back for Raul Gonzalez. He went for a quick pass to get the ball to Shriver. After two touches, Shriver went for a shot that ended up in the hands of Caleb Patterson-Sewell.
A last ditch clearance by Tim Kübel kept Brian Shriver off the scoresheet in the 77th minute. Luiz Fernando gained control of the ball right at the midfield line and quickly turned. Shriver started a run inside as Fernando slotted the ball through. He tried to go for the far post as Kübel trailed the play cleared away the chance.
Heading into stoppage time, the Kickers had back to back chances to try and level the score. The first came from a Brian Shriver corner kick. His cross in was able to get all the way to Braeden Troyer at the far post. He looked to head it back towards goal as Eckenrode was there to clear it away. After winning another corner kick on the opposite side, Matt Bolduc quickly found Luiz Fernando in space at the top of the Toronto box. He looked for the near post, as his shot skipped wide.
Richmond continue their Canadian road trip and travel to face Ottawa Fury FC this Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. at TD Place. That match will be available to stream online on ESPN+. KICKERS SEND SIX TO PDP COMPETITION
KICKERS BEGIN CANADIAN ROAD TRIP SUNDAY AT TORONTO
RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, August 10, 2018) – The Richmond Kickers (5-13-3) embark on a two-match, Canadian road trip starting Sunday against Toronto FC II (1-16-3) at BMO Field at 7:30 p.m. The match will be available to stream live on ESPN+.
Sunday’s match up will be the second meeting this season between the two clubs. TFCII went ahead after just nine minutes as Aidan Daniels found the back of the net for the visitors at City Stadium. Two minutes later Yudai Imura leveled the score for the Kickers set up by Dane Kelly, on loan from D.C. United. An own goal by Toronto’s Brandon Onkony gave the Kickers all three points and extended their lead in the overall series at 5-2-1 all-time. This will be the final meeting between these two league opponents, as Toronto FC II will become a founding member of the USL Division III in 2019.
Richmond will be looking to get a result following three straight league losses. The last of those came last Saturday night at the hands of Bethlehem Steel FC at City Stadium. Coming out of halftime scoreless, Steel FC found the break through goal in the 54th minute from Santi Moar. Bethlehem found the back of the net two more times in the final 15 minutes to claim the season sweep of the Kickers and take all three points.
Toronto is also coming into Sunday’s match on the heels of a defeat last Saturday night. TFC II took trip to Highmark Stadium to take on Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. Toronto fell behind the home side with just nine minutes to go in the 90 as Neco Brett scored the only goal of the match.
Following Sunday’s contest, the Kickers continue their road trip and take on Ottawa Fury FC at TD Place Stadium. Kickoff for that match is set for 7:00 p.m. and will be available live on ESPN+. The VCU standout joined the Kickers after 47 collegiate appearances over four seasons, starting in 26 matches and scoring one goal his junior season.
Toronto: Midfielder Shaan Hundal (#64) has two goals this season in 14 appearances for TFCII this season. Hundal played in 22 matches in 2017, registering seven goals in his sophomore season with Toronto. Midfielder Luca Uccello (#45) converted the game winning penalty kick in TFCII’s first win of the season against Nashville SC July 28. This season, the TFC Academy product has three goals and two assists over 19 appearances, 16 of which were starts. Defender Robert Boskovic (#49) leads TFCII with 104 clearances through 17 appearances. Boskovic has led Toronto to three clean sheets this season, including their last one in their victory over Nashville SC.

RICHMOND UNITED ANNOUNCES STAFF EXPANSION
RICHMOND, Va. — (Monday, August 6, 2018) — Richmond United is proud to announce the addition of Stephan Rigaud who has been named Head Coach of the U17 and U19 US Soccer Development Academy teams.
A native of New York, Rigaud holds the prestigious USSF A-Youth License and brings extensive Academy and collegiate experience to Richmond. Most recently, he acted as associate head coach for the BW Gottschee Development Academy U19 team that finished fourth in the Northeast Conference behind three Major League Soccer Academies. An integral member of the Gottschee Academy since 2014, he was Assistant Coach for the 2015-16 U18 team that finished the regular season with a record of 24-1-1.
Rigaud also brings collegiate experience to Richmond, having acted as Assistant Coach with Iona College Men’s Soccer in 2017 and Saint John’s University Women’s Soccer in 2015 and 2016, as well as Assistant Coach for the Westchester Flames of the USL Premier Development League.
Richmond United’s staff expansion also includes the addition of former Richmond Kickers professional player Matthew Delicâte, who has been named Assistant Coach of the U12 and U14 US Soccer Development Academy teams.
The most prolific goal scorer in Kickers’ history, Delicâte made 249 appearances over 10 seasons, amassing 113 career goals and 28 career assists over a 13-year professional career. After a three-year stint with the Rochester Rhinos (2006-2008), where he contributed 19 goals and seven assists, the native of Kent, England returned to Richmond in 2009 and led the club to back-to-back Championship appearances. A four-time USL All-League First-Team honoree and 2014 USL Most Valuable Player Finalist, Delicâte also owns the club record for career points (209) in a Kickers uniform.
The 2003 Virginia State and CAA Player of the Year, Delicâte accumulated 44 goals and 13 assists over four seasons at Virginia Commonwealth University. A 2017 VCU Athletics Hall of Fame inductee, he contributed 39 points in 2003, ranking third in school single-season history and he is the first player to reach the century mark in career points (101).
Delicâte has coached with the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club since 2009 and currently holds a US Soccer A License. He is also the owner of Cinesports, a sports filming company that provides advanced sports recording technology.
Both Rigaud and Delicâte will join Richmond United effectively immediately as the club begins preparing for the 2018-19 Academy season on August 6.
