Youth Club Job Opening: Youth Coaches

Organizational Overview:

The Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was formed in May 2000. Today, we are a full service soccer club with over 8,000 players participating in various programs sponsored by the Kickers and partner organizations. The club provides opportunities for all players of all abilities and unites soccer in the Central Virginia community.

Requirements:

Passion for the sport of soccer
Enthusiastic and energetic
USSF Coaching License preferred
Collegiate playing experience preferred
Experience working with kids of all ages and skill levels
Will be required to pass state and national background checks
Must have your own transportation

Mutaya Mwape Signs with the Kickers

RICHMOND, Va. – (Monday, January 21, 2019) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Mutaya Mwape for the 2019 season, pending USSF and USL League One approval.

“Mutaya showed great desire from our first conversation to be a part of the new Richmond Kickers Pro organization,” said David Bulow, Kickers Head Coach. “He is very explosive and dynamic with USL Championship experience and will be an important player for the Richmond Kickers in 2019.”

Mwape signed his first professional contract with the Charlotte Independence in 2018, following a successful trial with the club. The Lusaka, Zambia native went on to make 14 appearances for the Independence, tallying two assists and netting his first professional goal in a draw against the Charleston Battery on June 16.

“It is an honor to have been granted this opportunity to represent this amazing club and be a part of this community,” commented Mwape. “I can’t wait to get started and make the Red Army, Richmond Kickers fans and city proud.”

Playing two years at Lindsey Wilson College, Mwape scored 25 goals and added 19 assists. During his collegiate career, he played in six matches for the Ocean City Nor’easters in 2016 as they made a run to the USL League Two Semifinals. One year later, Mwape made 11 appearances for the Charlotte Eagles as the team marched towards the club’s first USL League Two title. He started his U.S. academic and soccer path through the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts.

“I saw Mutaya play well for the Charlotte Independence last season versus Cincinnati and Santos from Mexico,” added Matt Spear, Kickers President. “He’s technical, quick, creative and dynamic. He can break down opponents from wide areas, including cutting inside from the right side to his dominant left foot. And he fits Coach Bulow’s preference to beat teams on the ground and with combination play.”

The 2019 Richmond Kickers roster now sits at eight players with the addition of Mwape, including Amass Amankona, Matt Bolduc, Dennis Chin, Josh Hughes, Eli Lockaby, Scott Thomsen, and Braeden Troyer.

Eli Lockaby Joins the Kickers

RICHMOND, Va. – (Friday, January 18, 2019) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the signing of Virginia Commonwealth University defender Eli Lockaby for the 2019 season, pending USSF and USL League One approval.

“Eli is a player that I’ve been very interested in for quite some time and got to watch a lot of him in his senior season at VCU,” commented David Bulow, Kickers Head Coach. “He has the potential to be one of the best young players in all of USL League One and I can’t wait to start working with him.”

Lockaby is coming off a four-year career at VCU, starting in 62 games and appearing in 73 matches for the Rams, including leading the team the regular season title his senior season. During his time at VCU, Lockaby scored on two occasions and assisted in 12 goals. He was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team in both his junior and senior seasons. Throughout his collegiate career, Lockaby spent time with the Orlando City U23s and the Des Moines Menace in USL League Two.

“I am truly thrilled to begin my professional career with the Kickers,” said Lockaby. “I would like to thank my family, friends and teammates for their continuous support and encouragement over the years. I would also like to thank Coach Giffard and VCU soccer for allowing me the opportunity to continue playing the beautiful game while earning my degree. Richmond has been my home the past four years and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the Richmond Kickers organization. I hope the Red Army is ready because it’s going to be an incredible year in RVA and I can’t wait to get right to work!”

Growing up in Orlando, Florida, Lockaby played in the Orlando City SC youth system and played through the OCSC Academy U18 Team. Prior to joining VCU, he was a Regional Finalist and named to the 2013 All-Central Florida First Team.

“It’s awesome to get a quality player like Eli from VCU, an excellent NCAA Division I program and a University that is an important partner on several levels,” commented Matt Spear, Kickers President. “I am familiar with Eli as a very successful and talented full back on the Rams’ A-10 regular season champion squad.”

Kickers Re-Sign Matt Bolduc

RICHMOND, Va. – (Monday, January 14, 2019) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the re-signing of midfielder Matt Bolduc for the 2019 season, pending USSF and USL League One approval.

“When it was announced last season that we would be moving to USL League One, Matt was the first to express a desire to stay with the Kickers despite the change in leagues,” said Kickers head coach David Bulow. “He has expressed a love for the city, the club and its fan base on multiple occasions and will be a very valuable veteran as we take the new Richmond Kickers Pro into the future.”

Bolduc is back in a Kickers shirt for a third season, after initially signing just after the start of the 2017 season. In his first season in Richmond, he played in 15 matches and started 11 of those matches and scored two goals and added an assist. In 2018, Bolduc made 14 appearances and made nine starts.

“I’m happy to be returning to Richmond,” commented Bolduc. “It’s an organization and town that’s made me feel at home over the past two years. David and Matt have the ambition to top the league and thats all the motivation we as players need for this season. Can’t wait to make the Red Army and Richmond Kickers’ fans proud.”

Before making the move to Richmond, he made 19 appearances with long-time rivals Harrisburg City Islanders (now Penn FC) in 2016. He added one assist during the City Islander’s 3-1 win at FC Montreal and also contributed to a pair of shutouts.

A native of Peterborough, New Hampshire, he made 16 appearances during one season at the University of Massachusetts before a one year stint with Mass United of the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).

Kickers Partner with Spiideo

RICHMOND, Va. – (Tuesday, January 8, 2019) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with Spiideo to provide video recording and analysis for the club at City Stadium.

“I am extremely excited to utilize the Spiideo camera system for the 2019 season,” said Kickers Head Coach David Bulow. “It’s an example of many improvements. It will be the most important coaching tool for me and our coaching staff and I’m confident it will lead to exciting, entertaining, winning soccer from the Richmond Kickers.”

Spiideo makes advanced sports video recording and analysis easy and accessible for coaches, analysts and players. When using the Spiideo system there is no longer a need for manual camera handling, no camera man, no hassle with cables and files. The Spiideo Virtual Panorama technology captures both overview of the entire field, as well as details of individual players in the same recording using 4k cameras from multiple angles.The system then enables coaches to analyze and provide live feedback to players, as well as tag, draw, create presentations and collaborate with the team.

“The top of Coach David Bulow’s list of improvements for the season was to add Spiideo to City Stadium,” added Kickers President Matt Spear. “It will help the players improve and enable the team to reach peak performances. I got glowing testimonials from others including the Tampa Bay Rowdies. It’s a step up for the coaches, players, and organization. And working with Kickers’ legend Deli makes it even better!”

Based in Malmo, Sweden, Spiideo’s solutions are today adopted by first teams and academies in hundreds of clubs all over the world. However, while used by some of the world’s largest and most well known clubs in top leagues like Premier League, Serie A, MLS, USL etc. the system is cost efficient and suitable also for smaller clubs with more limited resources. In North America, over 50 NCAA DI programs are now using Spiideo to capture games and practices in multiple sports including soccer, LAX, Field Hockey and Basketball. In the professional arena, in addition to the Richmond Kickers, Sporting KC of the MLS recently signed on with Spiideo to capture training and games for the entire club from the 1st team down to the Academy. They will join a growing list of MLS and USL clubs.
