Kickers Battle Through Hard Fought Match, Fall 5-2 to Westchester on the Road

RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond Kickers fell 5-2 to Westchester SC in a high-scoring affair on Wednesday evening at The Stadium at Memorial Field. After a one-sided first half, Richmond came out of the break with an immediate response, scoring twice in the opening six minutes of the second half, but could not narrow the deficit in the final minutes.

Richmond created opportunities early, with Tarik Pannholzer and Axel Gallegos both coming close to opening the scoring, but Westchester capitalized on its chances to take a 5-0 lead into halftime. The Kickers responded immediately after the break, with Nils Seufert finishing from the top of the box before Tarik added a second goal in the 51st minute. Richmond continued to create chances throughout the second half, recording eight shots including four on goal, but could not close the gap any further.

Westchester SC was led by Connor McGlynn who doubled the home team’s lead and then solidified it with a brace.

• Landon Johnson carried the ball up the right side and sent a cross through the box to Tarik Pannholzer in the sixth minute, whose effort sailed just wide of the net.
• Westchester worked the ball around inside the box looking for an opening in the four minutes later, but Richmond’s defense held firm to shut down the attack.
• No. 5 Timofey Timchenko opened the scoring with a free-kick finish in the 14th minute, 1-0.
• No. 6 Connor McGlynn doubled Westchester’s lead in the 16th minute, 2-0.
• Axel Gallegos fired a long-range effort from outside the box that sailed past the defense before striking the crossbar in the 23rd minute.
• Hayden Anderson sent a cross into the middle of the box in the 32nd, where Zahir Vazquez got a touch that was thwarted by the Westchester keeper.
• Connor McGlynn converted from the penalty spot in the 34th minute, 3-0.
• No. 27 Jonathan Jimenez found the back of the net in the 37th minute, 4-0.
• Jimenez added another to give Westchester a 5-0 lead in the 39th minute, 5-0.
• Westchester led 5-0 at halftime. 
• Sam Layton, Dakota Barnathan and Mujeeb Murana entered for Anderson, Ali Sasankhah and Johnson at halftime.
• Pannholzer capitalized on a mistake by the Westchester keeper and played the ball to Nils Seufert at the top of the box, who finished the opportunity in the 48th minute.
• Barnathan found Pannholzer in the 51st minute, who held off his defender before finishing to bring Richmond’s total to two.
• Matt Bolduc replaced Josh Kirkland after Josh was forced to leave the match due to injury in the 61st minute.
• Harold Hanson carried the ball up the left side and played it into the box for Pannholzer in the 79th minute, but saw the ball deflected off a defender and out for a corner.
• Tyler Freeman entered for Seufert in the 79th minute.
• The final whistle sounded in the 96th minute with the score 5-2 in favor of Westchester SC.
