STATESBORO, Ga. — The Richmond Kickers (2-4-2, 1-0, 8 pts) defeated South Georgia Tormenta (3-1-4, 0-1 12 pts) on the road, Saturday night, after Adrian Billhardt bagged his first professional brace.
Adrian Billhardt put on a show for the Kickers, snagging a goal in both halves to carry the Kickers over Tormenta for the win. In the first, he struck from the top right corner of the 18 yard box and in the second, he found space from outside the 18 to bury another one.
The first quarter of the game saw a consistent back and forth from both teams. In the 27th minute, Billhardt shook his defender from the top corner of the 18 before burying a strike in the back of the net to open the scoring for the Kickers.
Late in the first, Tormenta would even the score but the Kickers would continue to knock on the door throughout the first half. Several more strikes would flurry around the Tormenta keeper before the first half whistle.
As the second half started, Tormenta pushed towards the Kickers’ goal but Gui Franca stepped in the way and reset the offensive push in favor of the Kickers.
In the 58th minute, Nil Vinyals — who made his 100th appearance for the Kickers — took a strike from the left side but Tormenta’s keeper ultimately got a hand to it to stymie the push from the Kickers.
The Roos wouldn’t be silenced though. Billhardt wanted more and from outside the top of the 18, he rocketed one into the back of the net to take back the lead in the 71st minute.
The Kickers would maintain the one point lead through the final whistle and left Statesboro with three points.
With the win, the Kickers moved into second place in Group 1 with the opportunity to go on top after Round 3 pending the result of the Greenville Triumph and Spokane Velocity match taking place later in the evening.
The Kickers return to the pitch, on the road once again next week on Saturday, June 1, when they face One Knoxville.
