ROAD WARRIORS RETURN HOME: The Kickers seek their first league win at City Stadium of 2023 after putting together a three-match unbeaten run in the league on the road that includes wins over third-place Greenville Triumph and fourth-place South Georgia and a draw at second-place Charlotte Independence.
Since falling in a close match against the Independence (two weeks after earning the draw), the Kickers earned a 3-2 home victory in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup against Cleveland SC and blanked Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC in a 0-0 draw.
Now the Kickers host Union Omaha for the first time in 2023 after earning two wins and a draw over the Owls in 2022.
SEEKING GOAL NUMBER 50: USL League One’s all-time leading goalscorer and the Kickers’ third-ranked all-time leading scorer is on the brink of reaching 50 goals for the club.
After compiling 45 goals in his first three USL League One seasons and three more goals during the 2022 and 2023 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup runs, Emiliano Terzaghi notched his first league goal of 2023 against South Georgia Tormenta FC, last Saturday — bringing his total tally to 49 goals.
Terzaghi sits behind club legends Matthew Delicâte (94) and Rob Ukrop Jr. (64).
FORTRESS CITY STADIUM: After finishing second in total attendance and posting a 6,000-person capacity sellout in the 2022 regular-season finale, the Richmond community is building upon its support to start the 2022 season.
In the home opener, the Kickers began with a 6,000-person capacity sellout and followed up with an attendance of 5,024 in the second regular-season match.
In the early days of the season, the Kickers lead USL League One with an average attendance of 5,512 as the City Stadium faithful continue to make their home the loudest, most intimidating place to play in the league.
JOE GALLARDO MAKES HIS RVA RETURN: Joe Gallardo makes his return to City Stadium after previously playing for Richmond during the 2019 season in USL League One’s inaugural season.
A dynamic forward that played as a striker and as an attacking midfielder, Gallardo led the Kickers with 6 goals and finished tied for third with 2 assists. He finished the season as a member of the All-League First Team.
He earned a transfer to Real Monarchs in USL Championship ahead of the 2020 season before playing in Mexico from 2021-22.
