RICHMOND, Va. — The Richmond Kickers (7-4-3) make their second trip to Charlotte, N.C. of 2022 to face the Independence (5-6-3) for the third and final matchup of the regular season. The official watch party for the match will be at Home Team Grill. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
During their last encounter on June 11, the Kickers defeated Independence 4-0 — matching their largest margin of victory of the season. Ethan Bryant and Matthew Bentley each scored two goals in the match. Jonathan Bolanos also tied the league record with three assists in a single match.

The Kickers look to continue building on the momentum after earning wins at FC Tucson and against North Carolina FC at the turn of the month.
Most recently, the Kickers defeated North Carolina FC 4-1 on Saturday, July 2. While North Carolina opened the scoring just before halftime, the Roos returned to the second half with persistence and were rewarded.
Emiliano Terzaghi netted the equalizer, assisted Bolanos’ game-winning goal, and scored the fourth and final goal of the evening. Owayne Gordon, who came off the bench at halftime, scored the third goal of the night and assisted Terzaghi’s final goal.

Following their performances to secure a maximum of six points during the week, Terzaghi, Bolanos, Gordon, and Jalen Crisler earned team of the week honors.
Bolanos, who leads the team with nine total goal contributions and is the league leader in assists with six, is currently nominated for USL League One Player of the Month while his game-winning strike against FC Tucson is nominated for June goal of the month.
Charlotte is currently on a two-match unbeaten run that included a 6-2 shelling of third-place Forward Madison FC before earning a 0-0 draw at reigning-title holders Union Omaha 0-0 on July 1. Since playing the Kickers, Independence made a new marquee signing in former Bordeaux, Manchester United, and Newcastle United star, Gabriel Obertan. The Frenchman scored in his home debut against Madison.
The Kickers return home on July 16 to host Pride Night at City Stadium when they face Greenville Triumph SC. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Ahead of Pride Night, Kickers players will tie-dye shirts that will be auctioned off during the match with proceeds going to the Virginia Pride Organization.
