Despite the tough result on the road, the Reds returned to Richmond for two days of positive training sessions to prepare for Tormenta. Richmond Kickers’ Chief Sporting Officer and Head Coach Darren Sawatzky’s team looked to regen following the NCFC match before challenging each other for spots in the 18 ahead of Saturday’s match.
Tormenta’s last matchup was against Greenville Triumph SC and resulted in a 3-2 win for the Georgia side. Goals by Micaletto, Mayr-Fälten and Mueller kept the former league champions at bay. Mayr-Fälten also registered an assist for the first of the goals by Micaletto. Mayr-Fälten had the most touches from the whole Tormenta side and won 100% of his aerial duels.
Richmond Kickers
Emiliano Terzaghi (#32) is currently tied in third place for the golden boot race this season with seven goals. Terzaghi has scored in two of his last three matches and only missed a goal-scoring opportunity by a whisker after a side volley at North Carolina’s goal went just over the crossbar. Terzaghi is also tied in the squad for most assists (2) and is a pivotal player in the attack whether it’s adding to the scoreline or creating the plays that do.
Jalen Crisler (#15) despite an unfortunate loss against North Carolina, Crisler showed resilience and humility with his performance. Crisler had two interceptions, one block, and gained possession five times. Crisler stepped into a new squad with the Kickers in 2021 and has managed 50 clearances, 17 interceptions, and 11 blocks so far this season with an 81.4% passing accuracy. Crisler helps set the tone for the backline and will play a big role against Tormenta.
Zaca Moran (#6) was awarded the Keiter Player of the Match against North Carolina. Moran has been the metronome for this Kickers’ side for the majority of the season coming in as a new player. Moran’s passing accuracy at this point in the season is 81.1%. Moran has also made 18 interceptions (3rd most in the squad) and averages 44.7 passes per 90 minutes.
