Club Home Match Preview News
RICHMOND, Va. – (Tuesday, September 22, 2020) – The Richmond Kickers (4-2-2) prepare for a busy week with a home match Wednesday night against Fort Lauderdale CF (3-4-2). Kickoff for this match is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET and will air live on WTVR CBS 6.3 (Comcast 206, Verizon 466) and streaming on ESPN+. This match will mark the first-ever meeting between the two clubs, and the only meeting in the 2020 USL League One regular season. Fort Lauderdale joined USL League One this season as the affiliate of new Major League Soccer franchise Inter Miami CF. The club is led by former United States Men’s National team player Jason Kreis, who has managed Real Salt Lake, New York City FC and Orlando City SC in MLS.
 
Richmond will be looking to bounce back after falling on the road 2-1 at Chattanooga Red Wolves back on September 12. Emiliano Terzaghi continued his scoring streak, netting his seventh goal in eight games including the last six-straight matches, after putting away a cross from Matt Bolduc on the volley. Tanner Dieterich scored in the 54th minute to pull Chattanooga level. Heading into stoppage time, Steven Beattie came off the bench to score the game-winner late and end the Kickers six-match unbeaten run. 
 
Fort Lauderdale came up short in their last match, taking a 1-2 loss at home to South Georgia Tormenta FC last Saturday night. The home side started out strong, going ahead after just five minutes. Edison Azcona took the ball off the feet of Joshua Phelps and made the charge towards goal, taking a shot that deflected off Phelps sliding in and over Pablo Jara for the opener. Tormenta responded in the 19th minute from Curtis Thorn and then again in the 62nd minute from Luca Mayr-Fälten to steal the three points on the road.  
 
The Kickers play their second match in three days this Saturday, this time on the road as they head out west to take on Union Omaha in the first-ever meeting between the two clubs. Kickoff for this match is set for 8:00 p.m. ET and it will air live on WTVR CBS 6.3 and streaming on ESPN+.

Midfielder David Diosa (#11) made his Kickers debut at Chattanooga, coming off the bench to play the final 13 minutes of the match. The native of Medellin, Colombia signed with the Kickers after playing five seasons with the New York Cosmos, logging over 40 matches and scoring four goals and adding five assists. Midfielder Luke Pavone (#14) returned to the Kickers lineup in Chattanooga. He has made six appearances this season, including five starts and is third on the team in shots with six. Defender Ivan Magalhães (#4) has appeared in every match this season for Richmond. He leads the club in both clearances (33) and interceptions (16), while tied for the top spot with four blocks. 

Fort Lauderdale

Forward Ricky Lopez-Espin (#7) is the offensive catalyst for Fort Lauderdale in their inaugural season. The former Lansing Ignite FC man has six goals this season, one behind Golden Boot leader Emiliano Terzaghi. Midfielder Eduardo Sosa (#10) leads the club with three assists in six matches. He had one goal in 18 matches with Columbus Crew SC over the last two years before signing with Fort Lauderdale before the start of the season. Midfielder Edison Azcona (#21) scored in Fort Lauderdale’s last match, a 1-2 defeat to South Georgia Tormenta FC. He signed with the club after spending time in the Inter Miami CF Academy and the Orlando City SC Academy prior to that.
