RICHMOND, VA – (Friday, September 2, 2016) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the signing of former D.C. United defender Conor Shanosky. Added to the roster days before the USL Roster Freeze, the veteran defender is expected to be available for selection prior to the Kickers next match in Louisville on September 10.
“When we heard Conor was available, we very much wanted to bring him back to Richmond,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “He was an important player for us in the past and we know he will be impactful for our playoff push and 2017 team.”
Signed by D.C. United as a Homegrown player in 2010, Shanosky spent the majority of the 2013 and 2014 seasons on loan in Richmond. Anchoring the Kickers back line to the best defensive record in the league en route to the 2013 Regular Season Championship title, he made 35 appearances in a Kickers uniform over two seasons. Integral on both sides of the ball, the native of Potomac Falls, Virginia added three goals while contributing to 15 shutouts.
Prior to the 2015 season, Shanosky signed with USL expansion franchise Louisville City FC where he amassed 3,267 minutes over two seasons. Making 26 appearances in 2015, he tallied more goals than any other defender with three on during the club’s inaugural season, helping Louisville to a second place finish in the USL Eastern Conference. He made 15 appearances in 2016 and added one goal before being released to sign with Richmond.
The Richmond Kickers clinched a berth to the 2016 USL Playoffs following a 1-0 win over Orlando City B last week and extended their unbeaten streak to 10 games after a 1-1 midweek draw with Charleston four days later. The Kickers take on Shanosky’s former club on Saturday, September 10 when they travel to Louisville City FC before returning to City Stadium for their final two regular season home games against the Charlotte Independence on September 14 and Charleston Battery on September 17.
