About the Tech For Troops Project Drive
Tech For Troops Project empowers veterans with refurbished computers, jobs and technology training to support their successful transition to civilian careers. Tech For Troops Project keeps usable computers and toxins out of the landfill, saves money for businesses by eliminating computer recycling costs and recycles electronics in an environmentally sustainable way.
Over three years, Tech For Troops Project has donated PCs used by over 3,000 veterans, employed Army, Marine, Air Force and Navy veterans, saved 5,000 computers from the landfill and recycled over 80,000 pounds of materials.
Tech For Troops Project trucks will be on site at City Stadium collecting:
- Laptops and power adaptors
- Desktop/tower computers
- File servers and networking equipment
- Flat panel monitors
- Keyboards, mice and power cords
- Other computer parts
- iPads and tablet computers
- Cell phones
Items that cannot be accepted:
- Fax machines
- CRT monitors
- Broken monitors
- TVs
All data will be cleared from donated electronics via a method approved by the U.S. Department of Defense and National Security Agency, which exceeds NIST standards by double-validating drives.
About the CARITAS Sleep Tight Drive
CARITAS is the largest homeless services provider in Central Virginia, transforming lives and restoring dignity through their four programs. The CARITAS Furniture Bank provides 800-1,000 individuals and families with furniture and essential household items each year – that’s nearly 25 children each week.
To help families sleep tight as the cooler months approach, the CARITAS Furniture Bank Truck will be on site at City Stadium collecting new and gently used household items such as:
- Blankets
- Mattresses
- Pillows
- Sheet Sets
- Bed Frames
- Sofas
