RICHMOND, VA – (Thursday, February 25, 2016) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce that homegrown midfielder, Nate Shiffman, has re-signed for the 2016 season.
“Nate will provide quality depth in several positions and also brings plenty of USL game experience,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw. “We are delighted he is returning and expect him to compete for a place in the starting 11.”
Shiffman made 13 appearances with the Kickers in 2015 and added back-to-back goals with the lone tally against the Premier League’s West Bromwich Albion in July and a late goal against the New York Red Bulls II one week later. Prior to signing with the Kickers last season, he spent his first professional campaign with Western Conference side OKC Energy FC in 2014. He made 22 appearances during the club’s inaugural season and scored the second goal in team history.
The Midlothian, VA native made 70 appearances over four seasons with Virginia Commonwealth University, recording one goal and 10 assists and earning Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team honors. Captain of the Richmond Strikers USSF Development Academy team, he was the Dominion District Player of the Year, First Team All-State honoree and three-time member of the Dominion District First Team at James River High School.
