RICHMOND, VA – (Tuesday, February 23, 2016) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the addition of forwards Luiz Fernando Nascimento and Romulo Peretta for the 2016 season. The Brazilian internationals were discovered during a coaching staff scouting trip with reigning Brazilian Champions S.C. Corinthians in São Paulo last fall.
“Our November trip to São Paulo to visit the legendary S.C. Corinthians proved extremely beneficial,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “We received a warm welcome and were provided unrestricted access to the club facilities, players and staff.”
“We are delighted to sign Luiz Fernando and Romulo,” added Cowlishaw. “They are young, dynamic attacking players who will excite and entertain the Kickers fans immensely. They are still teenagers who speak limited English so we will have to be patient, but they are no doubt players to watch for the future.”
Eighteen-year old Nascimento joined Corinthians as a homegrown youth player. A starter with the Corinthians U20s, he also featured regularly with AA Flamengo before signing with the Kickers.
Nascimento and nineteen-year old Peretta recently represented AA Flamengo in the prestigious Copa São Paulo de Futebol Júnior 2016 national tournament in January with Nascimento tallying the game-winning goal in the 2-1 win against Santo André in the group stage. The pair also led Flamengo to a semifinal finish in the U20 Campeonato Paulista (State Cup), losing to eventual champions Corinthians.
