TAMPA, FL – (Tuesday, September 23, 2014) – USL PRO honored the top performers from the 2014 regular season today, as chosen through a vote of team management and selected media. The Richmond Kickers led all clubs with four players selected, naming defender William Yomby, midfielder George Davis IV and forward Matthew Delicâte to the All-League First Team and goalkeeper Joe Willis to the All-League Second Team.
Named to the USL All-League First Team for the sixth consecutive season, Yomby made 27 appearances during the 2014 regular season, amassing over 2,800 minutes through all competitions. Integral on both sides of the ball, the native of Cameroon added two goals while allowing just 28 goals and contributing to seven shutouts.
Richmond newcomer Davis IV cemented himself as the club’s overall leading scorer this season, boasting 14 goals and adding six assists as the only player to appear in all 33 games, including U.S. Open Cup and playoffs. The USL PRO veteran signed with the Kickers prior to the 2014 season and finished the regular season campaign with a fifth place ranking in the league with 27 points.
Following a month-long injury, Delicâte immediately picked up where he left off, scoring the game-winning goal with his first touch of the night in the 117th minute against Charleston in the Quarterfinals to send the Kickers through to the Semifinals. Posting a career-high 16 goals through all competitions this season, the club’s all-time leading scorer surpassed the century mark in career goals in June.
Joining the Kickers for the majority of the season on loan from the club’s MLS affiliate, D.C. United, Willis finished the regular season with a GAA of 0.777, ranking second in USL PRO. Making 18 appearances and posting seven shutouts before being recalled to D.C. United, the MLS veteran led the Kickers to an undefeated 10-0-8 record.
The finalists for Coach of the Year, Defender of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player will be announced on Wednesday, September 24, with the awards being presented at the USL PRO Championship news conference on Friday, September 26 in Sacramento.
