RICHMOND, VA – (Monday, July 21, 2014) – The Richmond Kickers (10-1-8, 38 points) conclude a three-game regular season series against the Charleston Battery (4-8-5, 17 points) this Tuesday, July 22. Kicking off at 7:30 p.m., the match is a reschedule of the June 27th game that was postponed due to persistent lightning and will be replayed in its entirety, live from Blackbaud Stadium on YouTube.com/RichmondKickers.
The Kickers swap home field advantage with the Battery following a 4-0 rout at City Stadium last weekend. A pair of goals on either side of the half saw Conor Shanosky, George Davis IV and Jason Yeisley each convert tallies before Matthew Delicate took the USL PRO scoring lead with his 13th goal of the season. Kickers goalkeeper Joe Willis weathered a late-game surge to post five saves and his seventh shutout.
Previously, the two clubs opened the 2014 campaign with a 2-2 draw at Blackbaud Stadium in March when end to end action saw Davis score on either side of Jared van Schaik and Amadou Sanyang tallies. Tuesday’s match marks the 51st meeting between the two clubs over the past 22 years, with the Kickers holding the slight edge on the all-time series record at 23-22-5.
Following the mid-week game, the Kickers return to City Stadium on Saturday, July 26 to host Craft Beer Night and the Harrisburg City Islanders at 7:00 p.m. Over 20 craft beers and ciders will be available on tap when the gates open at 5:00 p.m., featuring brewing companies such as SweetWater, Shiner, Boulevard, Foothills, Lonerider, Lost Rhino, Smartmouth and Wild Wolf, as well as small batch selections from Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada.
