RICHMOND, VA – (Friday, February 28, 2014) – The Richmond Kickers announced today that midfielder Philippe Davies will move to Ottawa Fury FC of the North American Soccer League on a free transfer.
“We would like to thank Philippe for his time and commitment to the Kickers,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “He was a valuable member of our regular season championship squad and a talent we would have preferred to keep. Unfortunately, with several of our attacking players not returning we were forced to open up salary space to ensure we can again challenge for both the regular season and USL PRO championships.”
The Canadian National Team midfielder made 21 appearances and recorded his first goal in a Kickers uniform during the 2013 season. The native of Longueuil, Quebec transferred to Richmond after an extensive professional career with the Vancouver Whitecaps FC, becoming the Whitecaps first-ever Major League Soccer homegrown player and Canadian signing in 2010.
