RICHMOND, VA – (Thursday, November 21, 2013) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the signing of midfielder Shay Spitz, pending USSF approval.
“Shay impressed during his time with the LA Blues and was one of our main offseason targets,” commented Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Director of Soccer. “We are very pleased he has decided to join us and we know he will fit our style of play and be a positive attacking player for us in 2014.”
The New Zealand/American midfielder most recently spent two seasons with the Kickers USL PRO rivals Los Angeles Blues. Making 27 appearances in a Blues uniform, he posted four goals and one assist in 2013 and twice claimed USL PRO Team of the Week honors, earning a nod after leading Los Angeles to a comeback draw in Richmond.
Producing 12 goals in 77 appearances at Cal State Fullerton, Spitz featured for the USL Premier Development League’s Hollywood Hitmen and Australian Second Division side Rockdale City Suns before signing with the Blues in 2012. He returned to Los Angeles in 2013 following a six-game stint with Kitchee Sports Club in the Hong Kong First Division.
