The Richmond Kickers U13 Girls Elite claimed the Championship title at the prestigious WAGS tournament. Going undefeated on the weekend withouth conceding a single goal in five games, the U13 Girls earned 1-0 and 2-0 wins over Sterling YSA FC Elite (VA) and Empire Revolution Rochester (NYW), courtesy of goals by Rachel Northcutt and Taylor Shell before shutting out Maryland United FC Red (MD) 0-0 to take first place in their division.
Advancing to the finals after goals by Willa Shannon and Northcutt led to a 2-0 semifinals win over Severna Park Lasers (MD), t he U13 Girls battled the Thunder Blitz Ajax (MD) to a scoreless draw through regulation. Avery Ambrose, Abigail Fulop, Logan Georgel and Shell each converted their penalty kicks with goalkeeper Lyndsey Romig making two heroic saves to clinch the Championship crown.
“I was extremely proud of how the girls played during the WAGS weekend, scoring some fantastic goals and showing a lot of resilience in their defensive play,” commented Ihor Dotsenko, Richmond Kickers Technical Director, who coached the girls at WAGS. “It was a great team effort with all the players making significant contributions to the team’s first place finish.”
