TAMPA, FL – (Tuesday, September 4, 2012) – United Soccer Leagues recently announced the 2012 USL PRO All-League First Team, naming Richmond Kickers defender William Yomby as a top performer from the regular season, as voted by team management.
Honored for the fourth consecutive season, Yomby led the Kickers defensive unit to eight shutouts through the regular season and U.S. Open Cup tournament. Also contributing to the attack, he finished tied for third on the team in scoring, notching four goals during his fourth season in Richmond and earning USL PRO Team of the Week honors on five occasions.
Prior to signing with the Kickers in 2009, Yomby was drafted by Sporting Kansas City in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft, inking a developmental contract with the Major League Soccer side before joining the Puerto Rico Islanders later that season. The native of Bafoussam, Cameroon made five appearances with the Islanders in 2008.
Upon graduating high school from Lycee Classique Bafoussam in Cameroon, the 2009 USL Defender of the Year attended the University of Oschang in 2004 where he led the men’s soccer team to the Championship title. He participated in the University Games held in Dschang, helping the team claim a gold medal. The following year, he transferred to Old Dominion University where he made an immediate impact, selected to the CAA All-Rookie Team that season. Making 48 appearances over three seasons, the 6’4” defender earned All-CAA Second Team honors and was named to the CAA All-Tournament and All-State teams.
