The Richmond Kickers U-16 Girls Elite achieved a first in the Kickers and Richmond history this week when they won the 2011 Disney Soccer Showcase.
Known as The Proving Ground, Disney’s Soccer Showcase is the ultimate place for top clubs to be seen by hundreds of college coaches looking for great soccer talent. Rated the #1 youth soccer tournament in the U.S. in a Soccer America survey, Disney’s Soccer Showcase gives athletes a chance to shine on one of the biggest stages set for youth soccer in this country. The Richmond Kickers Girls certainly shone this week with victories over Texas, Florida, Indiana and Illinois clubs. Out-scoring their opponents 13-4, the Kickers demonstrated a solid team effort with six different goalscorers.
The Kickers traveled to Florida in style via the Kickers state-of-the-art sleeper bus and spent a day and half at Universal Studios before ringing in the New Year with a team dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe. The week-long event culminated when the Kickers defeated FC United Select, 3-1, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida. The teams earned the right to play each other by earning the most points in their respective groups.
