RICHMOND, VA – (Tuesday, January 4, 2011) – The Richmond Kickers are pleased to announce the return of midfielder David Bulow, who has signed a multi-year contract to play with the Kickers pro team, as well as coach for the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club, pending USSF approval.

“David has agreed to return to Richmond and will also be an important part of our youth club’s coaching staff,” comments Leigh Cowlishaw, Richmond Kickers Head Coach and Director of Soccer.  “He has extensive experience coaching elite level girls teams in Colorado and is looking forward to imparting that knowledge to our players and teams.”

Over four seasons in Richmond, Bulow led the Kickers offense to three Championship appearances.  In his fourth season in 2009, he finished second on the team in scoring with nine goals, ranking sixth in the league with 18 points.  Adding the Kickers lone goal during US Open Cup play, the veteran earned USL-2 Championship Most Valuable Player honors after notching a goal and an assist to deliver the Kickers’ second USL Championship title in four seasons.  Bulow returns to Richmond after a one-year hiatus from the club, having spent the 2010 season with the Real Maryland Monarchs where he made eight appearances.

In addition to his goal-scoring prowess for the pro team, Bulow brings more than eight years of elite coaching experience to the Kickers youth club.  The Denver, Colorado native currently coaches a U17 Girls Academy Copa team with the Colorado Soccer Association, leading the team to consecutive State Cup Quarterfinal appearances.  He has also coached the Regis Jesuit High School Girls soccer team for the past eight years and led the team to the 2007 4A Girls State Championship game.  He will begin coaching for the Kickers Youth Soccer Club immediately upon his return to Richmond this spring.

A three-time leading scorer at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine, Bulow amassed 32 goals and 22 assists during his collegiate career.  He earned NSCAA Third Team All-American Division II honors and was an All-New England and All-NESCAC First Team selection in his senior season.  After brief stints with Limavady United and Dungannon Swifts of the Northern Irish Premier League in 2005, Bulow rejoined the Cape Cod Crusaders (PDL) in 2006 as a player/assistant coach.  He finished the 2006 regular season second in scoring with Cape Cod with eight goals and three assists for 10 points, leading the team to the PDL Eastern Conference Finals.

USL PRO will make its debut in 2011 and includes marquee franchises such as the Charleston Battery, Richmond Kickers, Rochester Rhinos and Orlando City. Designed to help ensure the long-term stability of professional soccer in North America below MLS, USL PRO will feature 16 teams in 2011 and will benefit from national television and online broadcast packages. Focused on franchise stability and longevity, USL PRO will feature an unprecedented six teams with more than a decade of operational experience in 2011, and more than 100 years of combined operational experience.
