RICHMOND, VA – (Tuesday, December 15, 2008) – The Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club U-11 through U-18 Elite Teams were awarded the VCCL Club Champions title for the fall 2009 season. The Club fought off a strong challenge from SOCA to repeat as VCCL champions. The Kickers claimed the Girls and Club titles while winning six out of sixteen divisional championships. The U-11 Boys, U13 Boys, U-11 Girls, U-12 Girls, U-15 Girls and U-16 Girls all finished first place in their respective divisions.
A special mention also goes out to the Richmond Kickers U-18 Girls who, under the guidance of Andy McIntosh, staged a remarkable turnaround during the fall season to finish second in their division with a record of four wins, one tie and two losses. Considering that the girls did not win a single game during the fall 2008 season, finishing last in their division, their performance this season is nothing short of spectacular.
In the last two years, the Richmond Kickers Girls teams have won the VCCL Girls Championship every season (Spring 2008, Fall 2008, Spring 2009 and Fall 2009), clearly demonstrating the club’s status as the best girls program in the Central, South, Western and Eastern Virginia.
Since joining the VCCL in 2004, the Kickers have collected six overall VCCL Club Championships. This year’s feat is even more remarkable as the Kickers top 42 Academy players did not participate in VCCL. The Boys U-16 and U-18 Academy teams compete in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, which is widely considered the number one league in the country. Congratulations to all our players, teams, coaches and parents! Go Kickers!
