The Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors recently approved the National Background Check for those individuals associated with cosponsored youth leagues. (ie coaches, board members, etc) Originally proposed and discussed in public hearings was all current approved background eligibility cards would expire in December 2004. However, what was approved is that all NEW coaches will be required to go through the new background check process, which includes fingerprinting. This fingerprinting process will take place in January/February 2006 on the following dates, times, and places. All approved individuals will be sent a national background check card with an expiration date of three years. Current background check card holders, may be selected for random background checks beginning July 2005. Those selected will be notified and will need to proceed through the fingerprinting process and once approved receive a new card. Within three years all coaches should have a new national background check card. The following is a list of times, dates, and places for all new coaches to get fingerprinted:

Felony violation relating to drug distribution is now a barrier crime.
Felony violation of drug possession has changed from within five (5) years to eight (8) years.

Procedural Changes effective January 2005\

All new coaches will be required to go through the new national background check which will require coaches to submit in person a new application form, show a picture ID and be fingerprinted.
Parks and Recreation and the Human Resource Management Department will be scheduling the new background check fingerprinting process throughout the county during the months of January through May 2005 so that new coaches can be certified for the spring sports season. Additional meetings will be scheduled during the summer, fall and winter for other seasonal sports. Coaches can also make an appointment with Human Resources department Monday-Friday 8:30 am-5:00 pm by calling 717-6325.
