What is the Super Y League?
The Super Y-League is a national system designed for talented youth players destined for college, professional or international careers. The league is a perfect compliment to the Richmond Kickers vision of providing superior training and highly competitive games for elite players. Which Clubs compete in the Super Y League?
Over 100 clubs throughout North America compete annually for a National Championship. This year our club will be in the South Atlantic Division which is comprised of the following clubs: Alpharetta United, Atlanta Fire United, Fredericksburg Area Soccer Association, Northern Virginia Majestic’s and Royals, NOVA FC, and Triangle FC.
When does the Super Y-League Season run?
The season consists of approximately 10-14 games. The majority of games are played during the summer (June-August). The National Finals are held in November.
What are the age brackets for the Super Y-League?
The Super Y-League uses the same USYSA age brackets (Aug 1st to July 31st). The age bracket you participate in now is the same age bracket in which you would play. For example, if you currently play U13 you should tryout for the U13 Super Y team. Competition for Super Y League is only between ages U13 to U18.
What is the U 9 to U12 Developmental Super Y team?
The under 9 through under 12 boys and girls developmental teams will only have training with highly qualified coaches over the Super Y League season and participate in scrimmages. They will not compete in the SYL League. They may participate in friendlies. These players DO NOT have to purchase a uniform if they are new to the club, but will be required to purchase the two training t-shirts (if they are new to the club.)
Michael Burke, a Professional player and a USSF "B" licensed coach will lead the training for this summer. An advocate for youth player development, Burke acts as a Technical Director with the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club. He oversees the Advanced Development Soccer League (ADSL) program while coaching Richmond Kickers U-11 Boys and Girls Elite teams.
Where will the teams practice and play games?
Training and games will take place at Ukrop Park, our brand new state of the art Richmond Kickers Soccer Complex located behind the Ukrop’s at 5241 Ridgedale Parkway, Richmond, VA., 23234. Practice is usually 2 times per week depending upon game schedules. Games may be scheduled during a weekday or on weekends.
How many players will be selected for each Super Y-League team?
Depending on the quality of each tryout group between 22-26 players will be selected. A maximum of 18 players may be selected for the game day roster.
What uniforms will the Super Y-League teams use?
The Richmond Kickers Super Y-League teams will use the same uniforms our travel teams are currently wearing. If a player new to our club is selected to our team he/she will have to purchase red and white jerseys, red and black shorts, red and black socks, and two training t-shirts at a low price of $128.00.
Players that are new to our club in the U9 through U12 Developmental program will be required to purchase two gray Richmond Kickers training shirts at a total price of $ 20.00.
How will transportation to away games be coordinated?
Transportation to away games will be the responsibility of the parent.
How will lodging for over-night trips be coordinated?
The SYL Director will secure hotels for the away matches. The team manager will organize rooming lists and payment for hotels. All deposits on hotel rooms for players are the responsibility of the parent in addition to balance payment on lodging and cost of meals for all home and away games. The club will cover hotels and meals for the head coach (assistant coaches not included). All players will be required to sign a Code of Conduct which will include behavior expectations in any situation where the player is a representative of the club.
How much is the Super Y-League fee?
The fee for the U13 through U16 SYL players is $495.00, which includes coach’s fees, referee fees, administration costs, insurance, field rentals, and operational expenses. Travel expenses are not included in the fee nor does the fee include the uniform fee, if a uniform is needed.
The fee for the U9 through U12 developmental players is $315.00, which is due by March 1st, 2010.

When will selections be posted?
Selections will be posted on line by age group within 48 hours of tryout completion. All accepted candidates will receive an acceptance email with further detailed instructions. Once selected to a team, you will be asked to accept your position on line and provide a non-refundable deposit of $295.00 within 48 hours of the posting for the U13 to U16 SYL teams. The uniform fee, if needed is due at this time, as well. The remaining fee of $200.00 will be due by May 1st, 2010. For U9 through U12 Developmental teams, the fee of $315.00 plus any t shirts ordered will be due in full by March 1st, 2010.
