In the Spring of 2006,  representatives of local soccer clubs teamed up with St. Joseph’s Villa to launch a pilot program geared specifically to introducing soccer to children with special needs.  Called TOPSoccer, the program is an outreach effort under the auspices of United States Youth Soccer (USYS) and the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA).

The spring 2006 pilot marked the first time TOPSoccer has been offered in the Richmond area, making it the 19th such program to be introduced in Virginia.  The following clubs participated in the effort: Ashland Youth Soccer League, Chesterfield United Soccer Club, FC Richmond Soccer Club, Midlothian Youth Soccer League, Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club, Richmond Strikers Soccer Club and Virginia CASL.  With a 3 to 1 ratio of "buddies" to players, the program was an overwhelming success!  To be a "Buddie" email Paul; Paul_J_Mack@aon.com
