DESTINY FALL SHORT ON OPENING WEEKEND
Tie Lady Clarets 3-3 Friday, Drop 4-1 Decision to Charlotte Saturday

RICHMOND, VA – (Tuesday, May 26, 2009) – The Richmond Kickers Destiny of the W-League battled to a 3-3 draw in their season opener on the road Friday night against the Cary Lady Clarets at Middle Creek Park. The Clarets held a two-goal lead until the 70th minute when midfielder Sinead Farrelly cut the deficit. Defender Katie Carr notched two goals overall, tying the game off or a corner kick in the 90th minute.
 
The next day at their home opener at the University of Richmond Stadium, the Destiny dropped a hard 4-1 loss to the Charlotte Lady Eagles. Despite their defensive efforts, the Destiny went into the break down 2-0. Charlotte added two more on the other side of the half, with forward Christy Rife leading the attack with a hat trick.  Destiny defender and VCU graduate Samara Stephen-Dowd netted the Destiny’s lone goal in the 47th minute.

The Destiny head to Georgia this weekend to take on the Atlanta Silverbacks on Saturday, May 30th at 7:30 pm at Atlanta Silverbacks Park before returning to the University of Richmond Stadium to host the Hampton Roads Piranhas on Saturday, June 6th at 2:00 p.m.
