ONE VERSUS ELEVEN
Meet... Richmond Kickers Future Midfielder Scott Robertson

Midfielder Scott Robertson made a belated appearance with the Richmond Kickers Future this season, after completing summer training requirements as a midshipman for the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD.  Scott spent two weeks on the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74), a week with a Marine Corps unit in Camp Lejune, a week in San Diego with an aviation squadron, and a week in San Diego on a submarine.  Scott is going into his junior year at the Naval Academy and will become a commissioned officer with the United States Navy or Marine Corp upon his graduation in 2010.  Despite his midseason arrival, Scott made six appearances and tallied one goal for the Future this season.

1. What made you choose the United States Naval Academy?
I wanted to join the military but I also wanted to play Division I soccer.  The Academy made both of these possible while also offering great academics.

2. What is your favorite part about living the military lifestyle?
The military lifestyle gives me structure and keeps me organized.  Each day, I have a fairly regular routine of going to class, formations, and soccer practice.  I’m not sure I would be as organized at a different school.

3. What was the first soccer team you ever played for?
Chesterfield Flames (now Chesterfield United).

4. If you weren’t playing soccer, what would you be doing?
Relaxing at home.

5. Who is your greatest role model? Why?
Both my parents taught me the benefits of hard work and taking advantage of opportunities when they arise.

6. Favorite sports other than soccer?
Definitely football.  I’m a huge Washington Redskins fan and look forward to Jason Campbell leading them to a Super Bowl title this year.

7. What do you plan on doing after the Richmond Kickers?
I would love to keep playing soccer in the Navy, on the all-Navy team, which competes in inter-service competitions and the military Olympics.

8. What job would you like to fulfill for the military after graduation?
I think being a Navy pilot would be a good job but I haven’t ruled out any options yet.

9. What do you like to do when you are not playing soccer?
Hanging out with friends, playing video games, golfing.

10. What is the best experience you have had so far?
I spent two weeks on an aircraft carrier, the USS John C. Stennis, earlier this summer and that was an awesome experience.

11. What do you like most about playing for the Richmond Kickers Future?
I like the way the team is comprised of so many different players from different schools.  Also, I grew up playing on the same club and high school team as fellow Future teammates Roger Bothe and Jordan Evans so it’s cool playing with them again.
