This week’s edition of "One Versus Eleven" spotlights Future defender Dirk Dittrich. Kickers intern Sara Schecter interviewed Dirk, who is a rising senior at VCU.
Richmond Kickers Future player Dirk Dittrich returns to the team for his second season. Dittrich returns to the defensive sect of the Future after making nine appearances with the team in 2007. Dirk hails to the Future from Stuttgart, Germany and transferred to VCU after spending two seasons at Gardner-Webb University where he earned All-American Honors. 1. What made you choose VCU?
The great soccer environment: very good and experienced coach, very good training conditions, very good schedules during the season, teammates with different soccer backgrounds and philosophies. I felt that I can improve my game here while being at a school and in a city that seemed very interesting.
2. What is your favorite part about living in the US?
The excitement for sports in general. And the laid-back personalities (most).
3. What was the first soccer team you ever played for?
SPVGG Moessingen, my hometown team
4. If you weren’t playing soccer, what would you be doing?
I’d be a rockstar touring through the world.
5. Who is your greatest role model? Why?
My father Franz because of his experience in life.
6. Favorite sports other than soccer?
Handball. Watching college basketball is fun, too.
7. What do you plan on doing after the Richmond Kickers?
Stay healthy, win the NCAAs with VCU this fall, and then play professionally either here in the U.S. or somewhere in Europe as long as possible.
8. What is your major at VCU?
International Management
9. What do you like to do when you are not playing soccer?
Relaxing, being social with my friends, following German soccer, and cooking.
10. What is the best experience you have had so far?
Every won championship is a great experience.
11. What do you like most about playing for the Richmond Kickers Future?
The mix between seriousness and trying to win games, while having fun with the boys and trying to play beautiful soccer.
