RICHMOND, VA – (Tuesday, January 13, 2009) – Thanks to the support of the Richmond community, Richmond Kickers Indoor was able to donate $2,622 to Connor’s Heroes during the second annual Kick Out Cancer event held at SCOR on Saturday, December 20th. This year’s total more than doubled the proceeds raised during the inaugural event in 2007.
"Connor’s Heroes continues to be amazed at the generosity of the Richmond Kickers and the soccer community in Richmond, especially the CVSA, whose members have actively supported us over the past two years” comments Steve Goodwin, Connor’s Heroes Foundation President and Co-Founder. “We look forward to more Kick Out Cancer events and to making a difference in the lives of the children and their families as they battle cancer.”
A sellout crowd was treated to an exciting day of indoor soccer as a team comprised of coaching all-stars representing the local youth soccer clubs defeated Richmond Kickers Indoor 11-4. In addition to the finale all-stars showcase, Central Virginia Soccer Association (CVSA) teams Pink Panthers, Lions FC and Fan Rats battled to crown the Lions 2008 Kick Out Cancer Champions. In addition to the fast-paced soccer action, fans in attendance enjoyed a silent auction, raffle prizes, games for kids, and entertainment from the St. Andrew’s Legion Pipes and Drums and the VCU Dance Team. All of the proceeds from the event were donated to Connor’s Heroes on behalf of Kick Out Cancer.
