RICHMOND, VA - (Thursday, October 9, 2008) – Richmond Kickers Indoor is pleased to announce the addition of two players to the inaugural 2008-09 roster, midfielder Alan Delahunty and forward/midfielder Jairo Fernandez.
"Alan will be vital player for the team this winter," comments Richmond Kickers Indoor Head Coach Kyle Lessig. "He has a great engine, quality touch on the ball and a good football brain. Jairo impressed me at the combine with his composure in front of goal, exceptional technique and most importantly his desire for the game. He will provide depth and cover for our strong front-line."
Adding strength to the midfield, Delahunty made 24 appearances with the Richmond Kickers Future (PDL) over two seasons (2005, 2006), posting 2,213 minutes in a Kickers uniform. While at VCU, Delahunty started all 36 games played and recorded three assists over two seasons (2006, 2007). Delahunty also brings international experience to the Kickers Indoor team, having played with the Irish club Shamrock Rovers as well as England’s Coca-Cola League One clubs Bristol Rovers and Swansea City.
Meanwhile, Fernandez joins the 08-09 team out of this year’s inaugural combine. With over 30 players in attendance, the Richmond Kickers Indoor Tryout, held on September 27th proved to be a success.
