RICHMOND, VA - (Monday, September 22, 2008) – Richmond Kickers goalkeeper Mark Murphy is set to protect the nets for the 2008-09 Richmond Kickers Indoor (PASL) season.
“Mark will be an integral player on the team this winter,” comments Kyle Lessig, Head Coach. “He has a determined personality and professional playing experience, which will have an immediate positive effect on the team.”
In his second season as back-up goalkeeper with the Kickers, Murphy made six appearances, starting four in goal. He posted his first professional win on June 29th in the Kickers 3-1 road victory over the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Murphy earned his first professional clean sheet during a 5-0 win over Crystal Palace Baltimore on August 9th, making four saves on the night to bring his goalkeeper record to 4-0-0.
Starting 54 games at Mount St. Mary’s University over four seasons, Murphy tallied 83 saves and recorded a 1.36 goals against average his senior season. Named to the All-Northeast Conference second team, he finished his career ranking in the Top-5 in saves, minutes played and shutouts on the program’s all-time lists. Murphy also has Premier Development League (PDL) experience, defending the nets for the Chesapeake Athletic Dragons (2003-2004), Reading Rage (2005) and Thunder Bay Chill (2006).
About Richmond Kickers Indoor
Entering its 10th year, PASL is the largest international indoor/arena soccer league in the world with 54 teams in the United States. Teams play regionally with the season running November through March. PASL is an affiliated member of the FIFRA (Federation International Futbal Rapido Association). Richmond Kickers Indoor will consist mostly of Kickers professionals plus select amateur players and will take the field during the 2008-09 season. Competing in the Mid-Atlantic division, Richmond Kickers Indoor will face regional opponents in approximately 10 matches, with home matches taking place at SCOR, Sports Center of Richmond. Richmond Kickers Indoor Tryouts September 27th
Richmond Kickers Indoor will host an open tryout this Saturday, September 27th, 3:00 – 5:00 pm at SCOR, Sports Center of Richmond, located at 1385 Overbrook Road in Richmond. Richmond Kickers Indoor is seeking talented amateur players to compete in the highly competitive 2008-09 season. Applicants will be invited to participate in an afternoon of intense training and scrimmages. The application fee is $25.00.
