ORLANDO, FL — (Thursday, September 7, 2017) — The Richmond Kickers (6-13-8) earned their first road win of the 2017 season after claiming a 2-0 victory on the road at Orlando City B (8-7-12) Thursday evening. Mikey Minutillo scored his first goal for the Kickers in the 40th minute followed by Sunny Jane doubling the score in the 45th minute to give the Kickers all three points away from home. The Kickers have now won three of their last four matches.

Richmond would get the first real chance of the match through Luiz Fernando in the 4th minute. Sunny Jane found Braeden Troyer making a run up the left flank. Troyer played a one-time cross into the Orlando box and connected with Fernando. He tried to place his shot to the upper, left corner of the goal as it ended up going just over for a goal kick for OCB keeper Jake Fenlason.

Hadji Barry looked to get on the scoresheet against the Kickers once again in the 9th minute. Former Kickers player Scott Thomsen controlled the ball on the left side of the field. He was able to pick out Barry at the top of the Richmond six-yard box. Barry went for a header down in front of Travis Worra as the ball bounced over Worra and the goal for a goal kick.

Back to back chances for Orlando end up with nothing as the first came in the 14th minute. Fernando Timbo saw enough space inside the Kickers end of the field, and tried to test Worra from about 40 yards out as the shot ended up right into the hands of Worra. A minute later and Danny Deakin would try his luck at the top of the Richmond box. William Yomby was able to step in front of Deakin’s shot to block it away. Worra dove to prevent the corner kick for Orlando as Alex Lee met the ball to clear it away from danger.

Sunny Jane played a dangerous ball into the box that forced a reaction save by Jake Fenlason in the 29th minute. From the right side of the field, Jane was looking to play a cross to the near post as Luiz Fernando was making a run. The ball took an unusual bounce, missing Fernando and making Fenlason come up with a save to prevent a goal.

The Kickers found the breakthrough they were looking for in the 40th minute. Sunny Jane stood over a free kick from 30 yards out. He sent the ball into the back post and connected with Mallan Roberts right at the end line. Roberts headed the ball back towards goal to find Mikey Minutillo with space. Minutillo just needed to place his header on frame to Fenlason’s left to score his first goal with Richmond.

Richmond was not done scoring before the end of the first half as Sunny Jane doubled the lead in the 45th minute. After Jane drew the foul at the top of the OCB box, he was again the one to take the free kick. Jane powered his shot to the left side of the goal to give Richmond the two goal lead before the break.

OCB looked to try to get back into the match after winning a free kick at the top right corner of the Richmond box in the 56th minute. Scott Thomsen sent the free kick in trying to pick out Conor Donovan right in front of goal, as Worra came out to challenge. The free kick ended up sailing over everyone and beyond the far post for a Richmond goal kick.

Second half substitute for Orlando, Albert Dikwa created enough space for a shot in the 60th minute. Fellow halftime substitute Paul Clowes won the ball in the center of the field and quickly fed it up to Dikwa. He turned at the top of the arc and took his shot that ended going high and over for a goal kick for Travis Worra.

Orlando continued pressing to look for a goal in the 70th minute. Hadji Barry would not have a chance to really get a turn towards goal and fed the ball out wide right for Zachary Ellis-Hayden just inside the Richmond box. Ellis-Hayden cut back towards the top of the box to create enough space as Matt Bolduc was pressuring and put his shot on frame forcing Travis Worra to tip the ball over the goal.

The Kickers are back on the road next Saturday night, September 16 as they travel to long-time rivals Charleston Battery. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The match will be available on the Kickers Official Television Partners WTVR CBS 6 on their 6.3 sub channel and on the USL Match Center.
