The Richmond Kickers opened their Southeast Pre-Academy season in style with a 2-0 victory over Virginia Rush Sunday afternoon. The Kickers took the lead early in the first half when forward Joshua Franks capitalized on a well-placed pass by Randy Burks in front of the goal. Beating his defender, Franks fired a right-footed missile to the upper left corner, out of reach for an out-stretched Rush goalkeeper.
The Kickers created plenty of more opportunities throughout the game, but it took them until the 66th minute to double the lead. A cross from the right side found Eddie Catalan battling for the ball in the box. His flick landed at a wide open Tucker Lawrence, who calmly slotted the ball in the corner from six yards out.
The Kickers were able to secure the 2-0 win by an outstanding defensive performance, without conceding a single clean chance for Virginia Rush over the course of the game.
