MARYLAND MATCH-UP SUNDAY
Kickers return to UR Stadium May 21 to host Charlotte

Richmond, VA – (Thursday May 13, 2010) – The Richmond Kickers round out a three-game series against the Real Maryland Monarchs on the road this Sunday, May 16th at 6:30 p.m. at Richard Montgomery Stadium in Silver Spring, Maryland.  The Kickers return to UR Stadium on Friday, May 21st to host the Charlotte Eagles at 7:00 p.m.  Save on admission by ordering tickets in advance at RichmondKickers.com.

The Kickers face the Monarchs for the third time in two weeks on Sunday.  The two clubs met in Maryland on May 1st when the Kickers claimed their first win of the season, edging their I-95 rivals 1-0.  Scoreless through the first half, Kickers forward Matthew Delicâte connected on a well-placed cross by defender David Hertel in the 77th minute.  The Monarchs were denied by the woodwork twice in a span of five minutes in the second half and Kickers goalkeeper Ronnie Pascale posted three saves to preserve the shutout.

Most recently, the Monarchs escaped UR Stadium with a draw on May 8th.  Delicâte gave the home team an early lead with a 17th minute tally, connecting on a cross from rookie midfielder Jonathan Villanueva.  The Kickers controlled the run of play, out-shooting their opponent 18-4 but could not rally back after conceding an own goal in the 63rd minute.

Sunday’s match will be the second in four days for the Monarchs who host the Harrisburg City Islanders Thursday night.  Overall, the Kickers hold a 4-1-1 record over Maryland with the clubs splitting the series last year, each by a margin of 1-0.  Richmond hosts Maryland on Saturday, August 14th to round out the 2010 series.

Team of the Week Honors
Scoring sensation Matthew Delicâte represented the Kickers on this week’s USL-2 Team of the Week after notching his fifth goal in as many games against the Monarchs last weekend.  Delicâte takes the honors for the third time this season, having earned Player of the Week nominations twice.
