BURKE TAKES USL2 ASSIST LEADER HONORS

RICHMOND, VA – (Monday, August 13, 2007) – The USL Second Division recently announced Kickers midfielder and captain Mike Burke has earned the honor of Assist Leader with nine on the season.

Burke assumed the role of captain upon the mid-season retirement of veteran defender Kevin Knight, finishing the regular season tied for scoring on the team with three goals and nine assists for 15 points.  He garnered USL2 Team of the Week honors four times, more than any other Kickers player, including Player of the Week honors for netting a goal and two assists over Bermuda on June 17th.  In his eighth season with the Kickers, Burke eclipsed the all-time career assists leaders to hold the sole position in the franchise with 38 assists overall.  He continues to reside in third place on the Kickers all-time career points list with 90 (26g, 38a).  Voted both Supporter’s Choice MVP and Player’s Choice MVP last season, Burke was a USL2 First Team honoree and USL2 Most Valuable Player Finalist en route to the 2006 USL2 Championship.

Burke follows in the footsteps of Chris Carrieri, who won the honor with Richmond last year before returning to the USL First Division with the expansion Carolina RailHawks. Carrieri also had nine last year.
