Kickers Expand Relationship With Hispanic Radio Station
RICHMOND, VA – (Thursday, March 10, 2005) – The Richmond Kickers have recently formed a relationship with Radio Richmond, home to the Capital Region’s first full-time Hispanic radio station, Selecta 1320 AM (WVNZ), established in 2003.  Specific details of the one-year agreement were not disclosed.
“Our relationship with Radio Richmond’s WVNZ (Selecta) began with four “test” broadcasts during the 2003 season,” explains Richmond Kickers Director of Sales & Marketing Kevin Goolsby.  “Selecta expanded their broadcast schedule in 2004, including Nottingham Forest, DC United, the Chicago Fire and the Puerto Rico Islanders. As a result, our awareness within Richmond’s Hispanic community grew exponentially. The newly formed partnership between Selecta and the Richmond Kickers was inevitable given our shared love of the game.”
During the 2003 and 2004 seasons, Selecta promoted a limited number of matches but played a significant role in increasing attendance figures with the growing Hispanic population of Richmond.  Designated the “Hispanic Voice of the Richmond Kickers” for 2005, Selecta will produce live broadcasts during all Kickers home matches.  In addition, the station will partner with the Kickers to promote several Hispanic Heritage events, including a “Cinco de Mayo Celebration” at the Kickers May 8th game versus the Montreal Impact, an “Independence Day/Hispanic Heritage Night” at the July 2nd match versus the Puerto Rico Islanders and a “Fan Appreciation Night” at the final regular season home game on September 3rd versus the Portland Timbers.
Active in the youth community as well, Selecta has agreed to donate four Richmond Kickers Soccer Camp scholarships throughout the season.
“We are very happy to be partnering with a great organization like the Richmond Kickers,” adds Radio Richmond General Manager Mike Mazursky.  “Spanish radio goes hand in hand with soccer and Radio Selecta is excited to broadcast Kickers’ home games. As the Hispanic population grows, we expect the Hispanic fan base will grow as well due to the excellent soccer team we all enjoy.”
