Since the club’s inception, the Kickers have fielded a competitive team at all levels of USL including the Premier Development League (1993-1995), USL Second Division (1996) and USL First Division (1997-2005). Over the past 13 seasons, the Kickers have made five Championship appearances including winning the “Double” in 1995 with the League title and the U.S. Open Cup Championship.
Most recently, the Kickers completed a successful campaign in 2005 with a league record of 10-9-9 and a strong push for the USL First Division title, falling just short in the Championship match. The team’s accomplishments on the field were reflected in the community as Kickers players, staff and Kickeroo combined to attend over 50 community events and donated over 115 hours in the Central Virginia area, in addition to the demanding 36-game schedule this season. Events included Family Fitness Nights at local elementary schools, CJW Medical Center Bachelor Auction to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Salvation Army’s Angel Tree, Central Virginia Food Bank’s Hunger Awareness Event, Gayton Crossing Pumpkin Festival, Que Pasa Hispanic Heritage Festival and Big Brothers/Big Sisters Duck Race on the James.
Kickers players attend many functions to benefit community organizations throughout the season. If your organization is looking for a Kickers representative to attend your event, please complete the Appearance Request Form or contact Emily Carnahan at (804) 644-5425 x 310 or email@example.com.
Richmond Kickers Programs
The Richmond Kickers are a team dedicated to making this community a better place to live, work and play. Soccer has such presence in the Richmond community that it is only natural for the professional team to lead the effort to help grow the sport to be all that it can be and more. Year-round, the Kickers participate in and host numerous programs and events.
Camps & Clinics
Last year over 1,000 youth players attended a Kickers camp or clinic. We host a myriad of camps ranging in skill level from beginning to advanced over the course of the summer; and, offer holiday and spring break camps as well. The goal of all Kickers camps is to motivate, inspire and improve each child who attends.
Kickers host a variety of clinics over the course of the year at different recreation centers and various sponsor locations to which youth players from the surrounding area are invited to participate. Clinics are designed to introduce new skills or techniques instructed by professional players.
Player Appearances & Donations
Kickers’ pro players participate in numerous community events including fairs, festivals, school programs, and charity events. The Richmond Kickers regularly donate jerseys & merchandise, autographed posters, soccer balls and other memorabilia to more than one hundred schools, charitable organizations and less-fortunate youth in foreign countries. To request a donation for an auction or event, please fax a letter of request to Shelley Sowers at (804) 591-2680.
"Kicks For Kids"
The Kicks for Kids Program is entering its sixth year of existence and is a program that has provided a “game & entertainment experience” to over 6,000 children. Each year this valuable program has seen a growth in the number of tickets we have been able to distribute to youth agencies in our community, specifically to under served or at-risk youth. In the past this program has helped area youth programs, YMCA’s, Boy Scout Troops, Girl Scout Troops, community centers, schools and churches. We believe this program is a great way to give all kids in the Richmond Metropolitan area the opportunity to experience the excitement of professional soccer.
"Score With Reading!"
The Richmond Kickers’ “Score with Reading” program is an exciting new way to help motivate children to improve their reading skills. It helps foster student achievement without cost to the school. Students can earn two (2) complimentary youth tickets to a Richmond Kickers game when successfully completing the program.
Teachers select three reading goals tailored to the specific needs of their students. When a student successfully reaches his/her goals, teachers initial a specially provided Richmond Kickers’ bookmark.
When three goals are achieved, that student has scored a “hat trick” and receives their two complimentary Richmond Kickers’ youth tickets.
Our "Score with Reading!" program was launched at one school in Chesterfield County and was offered to students in grades 1 through 5, but due to it’s tremendous success we have commitments for the 2005 campaign from elementary schools in the following school systems: Chesterfield County, Henrico County, Dinwiddie County and the City of Hopewell. We continue to pursue additional schools and hope eventually that this program can become a countywide or citywide endeavor.
