Joey Worthen returns to the Kickers for the 2009 season after having spent time in the MLS with Real Salt Lake and in USL-I with the Carolina Railhawks. A graduate of the University of South Carolina, Worthen played on the U-20 national team after a stellar first season with the Gamecocks. When he’s not on the field, Worthen enjoys spending time with his family and his wife, Natalie. He also enjoys anything and everything outdoors, including hiking, skiing, wakeboarding and traveling.

John Elway
2. What word(s) best describe you on the field? Intense Off the field? Chill
3. What brought you to the Richmond Kickers?
The first time, because I always liked playing against Richmond and loved the field. I also felt like the organization was run very well and I liked the coaching staff. Most recently, I came back to Richmond because this is where I had the most fun playing soccer.
4. If you had a personal motto, what would it be?
Motorbreath, it’s how I live my life. And it’s so easy.
5. What do you like most about playing for the Kickers?
The opportunity to play, the camaraderie with the team, and the Kickers bus.
6. What is your favorite Kickers memory?
Scoring my first professional goal against Ronnie.
7. What is the best game you’ve been involved in?
My first game at South Carolina. I had a hat trick.
8. Which soccer player do you model your game most closely to?
None. I think my style is unique.
9. What is your favorite thing to do in Richmond?
There are lots of things; my wife and I really like Richmond and we like to go tubing on the river.
10. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Why?
I love to travel. My wife and I talk about this constantly and have such a hard time deciding on a particular place because we want to go everywhere. But my favorite place is Lake Powell in southern Utah. It’s like the Grand Canyon filled with water and is the best place ever.
11. What is the best coaching advice you’ve received?
Work to make yourself better every day.
