In support of Ian Stowe’s battle with cancer, the Richmond Kickers and The College of William & Mary are pleased to team up for a benefit exhibition match on Friday, March 23. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m. at Ukrop Park.
All proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit the fundraising campaign, #stowestrong, for the former Richmond Kickers Super Y-League and Premier Development League player, to help offset the impending medical expenses related with Stowe’s treatment program.
Posting 1,250 minutes over two seasons with the Richmond Kickers Future, Stowe made 20 appearances, recording one goal for the Kickers Premier Development team. A former FC Richmond and Clover Hill High School player, Stowe is a 2010 graduate of The College of William & Mary, making 75 appearances, notching two goals and five assists en route to two NCAA Tournament berths, CAA regular season and tournament Championships and an appearance in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
In January 2012, a brain tumor was discovered on Stowe’s brain stem, leading to a diagnosis of Germinoma, a type of germ cell tumor typically resulting from a failure of germ cells to migrate properly in the body. Stowe is currently at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Medical College of Virginia where he will receive chemotherapy and radiation treatments with the goal of eradicating the tumor.
